Akasa Air Co-Founder Aditya Ghosh on Monday said India can play a leading role with respect to sustainable aviation fuel by plugging into the global supply chain opportunities. Airlines and airports will be pushed to take sustainable measures, he said but added that currently, sustainable aviation fuel is much more expensive compared to the traditional fuel. Ghosh, an aviation industry veteran and former IndiGo chief, was speaking at the CAPA aviation summit in the national capital. There is a gap of around USD 350 million in terms of funding between traditional aviation fuel and 10 per cent blended fuel, he said. According to him, India can plug into the global supply chain opportunities in the context of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Akasa Air to place order for fleet of aircraft in three digits by year-end

Akasa Air is going to place an order for a fleet of aircraft which will be in three digits by the year-end, the company said on Wednesday. The company's founder and Chief Executive Officer, Vinay Dube said it plans to go international by the year-end and intends to set up a learning academy in Bengaluru. He also said Akasa has already ordered a fleet of 72 aircraft of which 18 have been delivered. "By the end of the year we will place a large order for aircraft. I'm not going to disclose the number but the order will be in three digits and it will be significant," Dube said in a press conference here. In the next one year, Akasa is going to hire 300 pilots, Dube said, adding that the company is also going to open a learning centre in Bengaluru. According to him, Akasa Air will need at least 3,500 pilots in the next one decade. Akasa Air on Wednesday said it experienced certain "operational disruptions" due to the global outage at its service provider's facility and the issues were fixed later. On Wednesday, thousands of users across the globe reported problems with various online services, including Azure cloud computing service, offered by Microsoft. "Our systems have been temporarily affected, owing to the global outage at our service provider's facility, causing certain operational disruptions. We are working closely with our stakeholders to address the situation and appreciate your patience and support during this time. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our customers," an Akasa Air spokesperson said in a statement on Wednesday. The issues were fixed later. Akasa Air to launch Goa operations from Panaji on Wednesday: Co-founder

Akasa Air will launch its Goa operations from Panaji on Wednesday, with daily services to Mumbai and Bengaluru, the airline's co-founder and chief commercial officer Praveen Iyer said on Tuesday. Domestic carrier Akasa Air announced its plans to launch services to Visakhapatnam from Bengaluru, starting December 10, which will be the airline's 10th destination since its launch in August this year. Akasa Air will start flights to Pune from November 23, making the city the ninth destination in the new airline's network. The carrier, which started operations on August 7, expects to cross some 58 daily flights and 400 weekly flights by the end of November, a release said on Wednesday. Owing to rising demand, the airline said the connectivity between Bengaluru and Mumbai will be increased with a sixth and seventh frequency from November 23, taking the total number of daily services in the route to seven. After launching the services between Bengaluru and Pune on November 23, Akasa Air will start a second frequency in the route from November 26. An Akasa Air plane coming from Ahmedabad to Delhi suffered bird hit on Thursday but landed safely in the national capital and the aircraft has been grounded for a detailed inspection.
