Like Congress, BJP will lose for misusing central agencies: Akhilesh Yadav

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday asserted that the BJP would be politically finished in the days to come, just like the Congress, for misusing central agencies against opposition parties. Yadav also pressed for the caste census, which he said would be a major issue in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. "Earlier, the Congress used to misuse the central agencies, and now BJP is doing the same. Congress is now finished. The BJP, too, will meet a similar fate, he told a press conference here. He claimed that the Congress during the UPA-2 regime had promised to conduct a caste census, but later backtracked. "We want the BJP-led central government to conduct the caste census. Several leaders have been demanding it. But like the Congress, the saffron party is also not keen on conducting it," Yadav said. Asked what would be the formula of the proposed opposition front ahead of the general elections, Yadav said it won't be disclosed. "We won't reveal the formula of the opposition fr

Exuding confidence that an opposition alliance would take shape in the days to come, Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav said regional parties would play a key role in putting up a fight against the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, on the role of the Congress in this proposed opposition front, Yadav said it is for the grand old party to decide. "Efforts are on to forge an opposition alliance or front. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao are making efforts (on their own). I am confident that in the days to come, an opposition alliance will take shape, which will fight against the BJP," he told PTI Video in an interview. To a question whether he is putting the Congress and the BJP on the same pedestal, the SP chief said it is the regional parties in various states which are fighting the saffron camp. "In many states, the Congress doesn't exist in comparison to the BJP, but regio

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday slammed the BJP-led Centre over AAP leader Manish Sisodia's arrest, saying the people of Delhi will respond to it by ensuring the saffron party's defeat in all seven Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 polls. The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Sisodia, the deputy chief minister of Delhi, on Sunday in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped excise policy for 2021-22. "By arresting Manish Sisodia ji, who brought revolutionary changes in the field of education in Delhi, BJP has proved that it is not only against education but also against the future of the children of Delhi, " Yadav said in a tweet in Hindi. Akhilesh Yadav demands Caste census, says needed for inclusive growth

Samjawadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday demanded that a caste census be conducted, saying it was necessary for inclusive growth. "Caste census is not a new demand of the party. Earlier also various parties and SP had made this demand. 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' (with all, for everyone's development) is possible only when caste census is done," Yadav told reporters in assembly premises. Attacking Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Yadav said, "he (CM) has come from another state, he has nothing to do with the state's caste census. People can get due honour after the caste census otherwise dreams of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar will remain unfulfilled". He also termed as "unfortunate" the Kapur incident in which a 45-year-old woman and her daughter allegedly immolated themselves during an anti-encroachment drive.

SP's Akhilesh, Maurya takes on RSS chief for 'no caste before God' remark

Taking Mohan Bhagwat on after his remark that all people are equal before God, Samajwadi Party leaders have asked the RSS chief to clarify the ground reality of the caste system and get casteist comments removed from Ramcharitmanas. At a public event in Mumbai Sunday, Bhagwat had said everyone is equal in the eyes of God. All these things were created by priests, which is wrong, he said. Bhagwat's comment came against the backdrop of the controversy triggered by SP's Swami Prasad Maurya after he recently demanded the "removal of portions from Hindu epic Ramcharitmanas that he said denigrated Dalits and women.
