Amazon to make investment of $3 mn in nature-based projects in India

E-commerce major Amazon on Monday said it will make an initial investment of USD 3 million in nature-based projects in India. The allocation is part of the company's USD 15 million fund it has allocated for nature-based projects in Asia Pacific (APAC). "The first USD 3 million from the fund's APAC allocation will support nature-based projects in India. "For its first project, Amazon will be working with the Centre for Wildlife Studies (CWS) to support communities and conservation efforts in the Western Ghats, which is home to more than 30 per cent of all of India's wildlife species, including the world's largest population of wild Asiatic elephants and tigers," the company said in a statement. Amazon will provide USD 1 million to help CWS establish the "Wild Carbon" program, which will support 10,000 farmers in planting and maintaining one million fruit-bearing, timber and medicinal trees, according to the statement. E-commerce giant Amazon is "excited" about India market, charged by digitisation, economic growth and younger demographics, its country head Manish Tiwary has said asserting that the runway on e-commerce opportunity in the country "is huge" going forward. Amazon senior manager shot dead in northeast Delhi, relative injured

A 36-year-old man working as a senior manager with e-commerce giant Amazon was shot dead in northeast Delhi's Bhajanpura area, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place at around 11.30 pm on Tuesday when five unidentified people opened fire at Harpreet Gill and his maternal uncle Govind Singh (32) in Subhash Vihar, they said. Shot in the head, Gill was pronounced brought dead by doctors at the Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, while his relative was under treatment, police said. Gill, a resident of Bhajanpura, worked as a senior manager with Amazon at Jakhira in west Delhi. A bullet entered from the right side of his head behind the ear and exited from the other side, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey said.
