Centre to give Rs 3,448 cr assistance under SDRF to flood-hit AP, Telangana

Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday announced an immediate assistance of Rs 3,448 crore to mitigate the impact of floods in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Chouhan, who is in Telangana today after reviewing the flood situation in Andhra Pradesh, said: "No one needs to be disappointed. We are working to provide immediate help". Presently, the arrangement is being made to provide immediate assistance of Rs 3,448 crore under the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF), which also includes the central government's share, he said. After providing immediate assistance, the government will think about making available fertilisers and seeds to farmers for the next crop, he added. The minister also assured the farming community that the Centre will provide appropriate compensation after the assessment of the crop damage. Andhra deploys drones for flood relief; 'setting new precedent', says govt

Andhra Pradesh has launched a pioneering effort to use drones for flood relief operations, marking a significant shift in the country's disaster management approach, the government said on Thursday. The Union Civil Aviation Ministry said drones capable of carrying payloads up to 40 kg have been deployed in Vijayawada city to deliver essential supplies in areas currently inaccessible by traditional means. The drone technology has vast potential to ensure "timely and effective responses to emergencies", Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said in a statement. "In the future, we will expand the use of drones beyond surveillance and agricultural applications to include dedicated models for disaster relief," he added. Govt asks insurers to swiftly settle claims in flood-hit Andhra, Telangana

The Finance Ministry on Thursday said PSU insurance companies have been directed to ensure swift claim settlements by organising special camps and easing claim processes for those affected by heavy rains and floods in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The insurance companies have been also instructed to widely advertise the names and contact numbers of nodal officers to whom the policyholders can contact. In a statement, the ministry said in view of the heavy rains and floods in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the Department of Financial Services issued directions, on Thursday, to the public sector insurance companies to extend and provide full support to the people affected by floods. Andhra Pradesh floods: Central team to visit affected places today

An inter-ministerial team from the Central government will visit flood-ravaged districts in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday and interact with the affected people. The team will visit flood-hit Krishna, NTR and Guntur districts. "The Central team will include National Disaster Management Authority adviser KP Singh, Central Water Commission Director Siddarth Mitra," said a release. The death toll in the unprecedented torrential downpours and floods in the state rose to 32 and the number of evacuees in relief camps increased to 45,369, officials said on Wednesday. NDRF begins airdropping food packets, water in flood-hit Vijayawada

National Disaster Response Force teams and local officials on Tuesday began dropping food packets, water bottles and other basic necessities for people in flood-affected areas of Vijayawada on Tuesday. As many as six helicopters and drones have been deployed for distribution of food, which also included biscuits, fruits and milk and medicines, an official press release said. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said the recent torrential rain and subsequent floods in Andhra Pradesh, particularly in Vijayawada, is the "biggest disaster" he has witnessed in the state in his political career.
