7 injured in attack during protest outside pharma company in Thane, 10 held

Seven persons were injured after allegedly being attacked by a group of workers staging a protest outside a pharmaceutical company in Thane district of Maharashtra, police said on Wednesday. The police have registered a case against 10 attackers in connection with the incident which took place on Monday near the company's premises in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area in Ambernath, they said. According to the FIR, the incident occurred at around 12.30 pm on Monday when the accused, who were staging a sit-in protest outside the company's premises, spotted a group of people entering the factory. The reason for the protest was not specified. The accused, suspecting that the people entering the company were hired to replace them, allegedly hit the victims and also attacked them with sticks. At least 5 people wounded in shooting at Connecticut mall: Police

Five people have been wounded in a shooting at a mall in Connecticut, police said Tuesday. Waterbury police chief Fernando Spagnolo said officers responded to the Brass Mill Centre for reports of a disturbance at around 4:40 pm (local time). Spagnolo said all the victims were being treated at local hospitals, though he declined to elaborate on the extent of their injuries. Spagnolo said police believe the gunman, who had a semiautomatic pistol, knew the victims and that the shooting was preceded by a dispute that quickly escalated. He said police haven't made any arrests so far, but believe there is no further threat to the public. We do not believe this was a random act of violence, Spagnolo said at a briefing outside the mall. The Brass Mill Centre is located off Interstate 84 in Waterbury, about 50 km southwest of Hartford, the state capital.

Third man charged over fires at properties linked to UK PM Keir Starmer

A third suspect has been charged with arson over a series of fires targeting property linked to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, police said Wednesday. Petro Pochynok, 34, has been charged with conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life. The Ukrainian national is scheduled to appear at London's Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday morning. Two other men have already been charged with setting fire to Starmer's personal home, along with a property where he once lived and a car he had sold. They are Ukrainian national Roman Lavrynovych, 21, and Romanian national Stanislav Carpiuc, 26. Delhi Police cracks down on illegal narcotic medicines racket, 1 arrested

A team of Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Delhi Police in South West District arrested one drug peddler and seized a total 83090 tablets of banned pharma drugs (Alprazolam & Zolpidem) and 26,000 packets of prohibited foreign cigarettes from Mehram Nagar area of Delhi Cantt, police said on Wednesday.According to a statement, the crackdown on the prohibited narcotics medicine unfolded when Delhi police received credible information regarding certain international cargo courier service operators in the Mehram Nagar area who are involved in supplying these medicines and imported cigarettes.The information revealed that the peddlers have set up a few godowns in the Mehram Nagar area where these prohibited items are being stored.The ANTF team of Delhi police led further investigation and identified the suspect's location in Mehram Nagar. DRI detects over Rs 25 cr duty evasion by luxury car importers, arrests 1

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has detected customs duty evasion of over Rs 25 crore by way of undervaluation by luxury car importers, the finance ministry said on Tuesday. As per DRI, high-end Luxury Cars were being imported by resorting to undervaluation to the extent of 50 per cent by mis-declaring the import value at the Indian ports to evade the applicable Customs Duties. These luxury cars would first be transported to Dubai/Sri Lanka from the USA/Japan, for the purpose of conversion from left to right-hand drive (RHD) and other modifications, before being imported into India by mis-declaring the import value by using fabricated documents. "In the investigation, it was ascertained that more than 30 Luxury Cars, viz models like Hummer EV, Cadillac Escalade, Rolls-Royce, Lexus, Toyota Land Cruiser & Lincoln Navigator, have been imported by using the above modus operandi. Bangladesh court issues fresh arrest orders for Hindu leader Chinmoy Das

A Bangladesh court on Tuesday ordered the arrest of detained Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das in four more cases, a day after the court took a similar action against him in a murder case. 7 held for clashing with police during anti-Waqf Act protest in Assam

Seven people have been arrested in connection with protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act leading to a clash between agitators and police in Assam's Cachar district, an officer said on Wednesday. The protest march was taken out on Sunday without permission from Berenga Village towards Silchar town and the agitators threw stones at the police with the latter resorting to a mild lathi charge, Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta said. Prohibitory orders were clamped in the district to prevent further outbreak of violence, Mahatta told reporters here. Twelve more people were arrested in connection with the violent protests over the Waqf (Amendment) Act in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, where three people have died, police said on Sunday. No new incident of violence was reported from anywhere in the Muslim-majority district, with security forces keeping a close vigil, they said. Police have arrested the secretary of the Servants of India Society, the parent body of the prestigious Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) here, for alleged misappropriation of funds and cheating, an official said. Milind Deshmukh was arrested on Saturday on a complaint by GIPE's deputy registrar Vishal Gaikwad, the Deccan Gymkhana police station official said on Sunday.
