Telangana Assembly: Polling underway on 35,655 polling booths for 119 seats

Polling is underway to elect 119 members of the Telangana Legislative Assembly, with voters queuing up to exercise their franchise amid tight security on Thursday. Voting began at 7 AM in the 35,655 polling stations across the state, officials said. Polling would be held till 5 PM in 106 constituencies, while it would conclude at 4 PM in 13 Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected seats. There are 3.26 crore eligible voters, including 1,63,13,268 male voters and 1,63,02,261 female electors, in the state. As many as 2,290 contestants are in the fray for the upcoming elections, including Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, his minister-son K T Rama Rao, state Congress president A Revanth Reddy and BJP Lok Sabha members Bandi Sanjay Kumar and D Arvind. Ahead of T'gana polls, Cong counters KTR on highest per capita income claim

The Congress on Monday hit out at BRS leader K T Rama Rao for tom-tomming that Telangana has the highest per capita income in the country, saying the high per capita income was only because of three districts while more than 75 per cent of the state's population lives in the other 30 districts. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said this is nothing but a betrayal of one of the main reasons for the formation of Telangana balanced development of the state. More than 2.5 lakh staff will be engaged in poll duties for the November 30 Telangana assembly polls, Chief Electoral officer Vikas Raj has said. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, he said out of 1,68,612 postal ballots issued, 96,526 have been polled till November 26. "Almost definitely not less than 2.5 lakh people will be making this (poll) arrangement. When it comes to police, 45,000 Telangana police will be deployed. A total of 23,500 Home Guards were sought from neighbouring states. They are expected in a day or two," he said. The EC will also deploy 3,000 personnel from other uniformed services in Telangana, 50 companies of Telangana State Special Police and 375 companies of Central forces will be manning the security arrangement, Raj said. BJP National President J P Nadda on Sunday said the people of Telangana have firm belief in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that they will vote out the "corrupt" BRS government. Nadda participated in a campaign in Hyderabad for the November 30 Telangana legislative assembly polls. "The energetic atmosphere in Kukatpally says that Telangana has decided to vote out corruption and dynastic politics," he said on social media platform X. Rajasthan Assembly polls: More than 74% voting, stray incidents of violence

More than 74 per cent of the electorate in Rajasthan voted on Saturday in a bipolar contest involving the Congress and the BJP to elect a new government, with polling passing off peacefully barring a few stray incidents of violence. The tentative voter turnout was 74.96 per cent till the last report came in at 6 pm, an election commission official said. Earlier, Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta said the final voting figures will be issued once data is compiled. "The polling percentage till 5 pm was 68.24 per cent. The highest turnout was in Jaisalmer district, followed by Hanumangarh and Dholpur districts," Gupta said at a press conference after the polling ended. AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday attacked the BRS government in Telangana, questioning what right it has to continue in office when unemployment of youth, corruption and leak of question papers have become the order of the day. Rajasthan elections: Polling agent dies of suspected cardiac arrest

A polling agent of a candidate died due to suspected cardiac arrest in Pali district of Rajasthan on Saturday. Polling for the Rajasthan assembly elections began at 7 am on Saturday. An official said Shanti Lal, a polling agent at booth number 47 in the Sumerpur assembly constituency, collapsed at the centre. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and then to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. "Suspected cause is heart attack," the official said. The party affiliation of the polling agent was not immediately known. On Saturday, polling is being held in 199 out of the 200 assembly constituencies in the state. Elections in Karanpur in Sriganganagar have been postponed due to the demise of the Congress candidate.
