Automobile retail sales drop 7% in February amid slowing demand: Fada

Automobile retail sales across categories, including passenger vehicles and two-wheelers, witnessed a drop of 7 per cent in February amid declining demand, dealers' body FADA said on Thursday. Overall retail sales in the domestic market stood at 18,99,196 units last month, registering a dip of 7 per cent compared to 20,46,328 units in the year-ago period. "February witnessed a broad-based downturn across all categories," Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) President C S Vigneshwar said in a statement. During the month, dealers began expressing concerns about inventory being pushed to them without their consent, he added. "While such initiatives may serve broader business objectives, it is critical to align wholesale allocations with genuine demand to protect dealer viability and ensure healthy inventory management," Vigneshwar stated. Passenger vehicle retail sales declined 10 per cent year-on-year to 3,03,398 units in February. "Dealers noted weak market sentim

Ola Electric renegotiates registration agency contracts; no impact on sales

Ola Electric, India's largest electric scooter maker, on Wednesday announced it is renegotiating contracts with its vehicle registration agencies- a period during which actual sales will not be impacted but the registration numbers showing on the government's VAHAN portal may see a temporary blip. In a stock exchange filing, Ola said it is discussing revising existing agreements with Rosmerta Digital Services Private Ltd and Shimnit India Private Ltd as part of a sales overhaul. This will "temporarily affect" registration numbers reflecting on the VAHAN portal in February. "We are renegotiating the terms of agreement with our agencies, namely Rosmerta Digital Services Private Ltd and Shimnit India Private Ltd, to reduce cost and enhance registration process efficiencies. Due to ongoing negotiations and optimisation of the registration process, our registration numbers for the month of February 2025 (on VAHAN portal) will be temporarily impacted. Our sales continue to be strong ...

Automobile retail sales rise 7% in January, PV segment up 16%: Fada

Automobile retail sales in India rose 7 per cent year-on-year in January at 22,91,621 units, driven by robust demand across segments, dealer's body FADA said on Thursday. Overall retail sales stood at 21,49,117 units in January 2024. "Our observations indicate that each vehicle category --2W, 3W, PV, tractor and CV-- witnessed positive momentum, pointing toward sustained consumer confidence and steady market recovery," the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) President C S Vigneshwar said in a statement. Passenger vehicle retail sales jumped 16 per cent year-on-year to 4,65,920 units last month. Many dealers noted improved demand but also pointed to last year's heavy discounting, which helped clear older models and shift registrations, Vigneshwar said. Inventory levels have improved, dropping by around five days to 50-55 days, suggesting improved supply-demand balance, he added. Two-wheeler retails stood at 15,25,862 units last month, an increase of 4 per cent, as
