Ola Electric, India's largest electric scooter maker, on Wednesday announced it is renegotiating contracts with its vehicle registration agencies- a period during which actual sales will not be impacted but the registration numbers showing on the government's VAHAN portal may see a temporary blip. In a stock exchange filing, Ola said it is discussing revising existing agreements with Rosmerta Digital Services Private Ltd and Shimnit India Private Ltd as part of a sales overhaul. This will "temporarily affect" registration numbers reflecting on the VAHAN portal in February. "We are renegotiating the terms of agreement with our agencies, namely Rosmerta Digital Services Private Ltd and Shimnit India Private Ltd, to reduce cost and enhance registration process efficiencies. IT services company HCL Technologies (HCLTech) on Thursday announced a collaboration with ChargePoint, a provider of networked charging solutions for electric vehicles, to drive innovation in EV charging software. According to a release, HCLTech has set up an advanced research and development centre for ChargePoint in Bengaluru. Automobile retail sales in India rose 7 per cent year-on-year in January at 22,91,621 units, driven by robust demand across segments, dealer's body FADA said on Thursday. Overall retail sales stood at 21,49,117 units in January 2024. "Our observations indicate that each vehicle category --2W, 3W, PV, tractor and CV-- witnessed positive momentum, pointing toward sustained consumer confidence and steady market recovery," the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) President C S Vigneshwar said in a statement. Passenger vehicle retail sales jumped 16 per cent year-on-year to 4,65,920 units last month. Many dealers noted improved demand but also pointed to last year's heavy discounting, which helped clear older models and shift registrations, Vigneshwar said. Two-wheeler maker Suzuki Motorcycle India on Monday said its total sales spiked 14 per cent at 108,921 units in January over the same month of last year. The company, which is the two-wheeler arm of the Japanese auto major Suzuki Motor Corporation, had sold a total of 95,762 units in January 2024, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd said in a statement. The domestic sales during the previous month was up 9 per cent 87,834 units compared to 80,511 units sold in the same month last year while the exports saw a strong 38 per cent year-on-year growth, reaching 21,087 units in January 2025, as against 15,251 units in the period year-ago, the company said. Suzuki Motorcycle also added that with the close of January 2025, it has achieved cumulative sales of 10,40,025 units in FY 2024-25 so far, surpassing its annual production capacity of 10 lakh units.

Tata Motors on Saturday said its total vehicle dispatches declined 7 per cent year-on-year to 80,304 units in January. The auto major dispatched 86,125 units in January 2024. Total domestic sales declined 7 per cent year-on-year to 78,159 units last month, as compared to 84,276 units in the year-ago period, Tata Motors said in a statement. Total commercial vehicle sales stood at 31,988 units last month, as compared to 32,092 units in January 2024. Total passenger vehicle dispatches declined 11 per cent year-on-year to 48,316 units in January, as against 54,033 units in the year-ago period.
