CM inaugurates Delhi's first large-scale biogas plant at Nangli Dairy

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday inaugurated the national capital's first large-scale biogas plant at Nangli Dairy, calling it a "proud moment" and emphasising that the city needs several such facilities to process cattle dung and municipal waste. The 200-tonne-per-day (TPD) capacity plant, spread over 2.72 acres, will treat cattle dung and biodegradable waste into compressed biogas (CBG) and manure, officials said. "This plant will not only help in cleaning drains and reducing pollution in the Yamuna but also generate green energy and revenue. Delhi produces nearly 1,500 metric tonnes of cow dung daily and one plant is not enough. The city will need many more such units in the future," Gupta said. Attacking the previous AAP government, Gupta alleged that the project was delayed for years despite funds being sanctioned in 2018. "It took eight years to complete this project because the previous government kept blaming Modi ji instead of working. They indulged in politics

Indian Biogas Association has pitched for a scheme to provide Rs 10,000 per unit subsidy for reviving 50 lakh biogas units, which are ready with basic infrastructure, saying it can spur mass adoption of the cleaner fuel, especially in rural India. Indian Biogas Association (IBA) Chairman Gaurav Kedia told PTI that the overall government spend on the scheme would be Rs 5,000 crore, which could be recovered in two years. He stated that IBA has called for the government to lead a bold, forward-looking attempt to support 50 lakh biogas units across the country. Infrastructure for these units is already in place and incentives are needed to spur mass adoption in rural India, he noted. "A focused, mission-driven approach like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan can deliver meaningful results in this direction. Most of these systems are underutilized or idle because of insufficient funding, maintenance, and long-term incentives. It is high time we move from potential to performance and convert biogas

Increase in MSME financing right step to boost biogas industry, says IBA

Indian Biogas Association (IBA) on Sunday said the proposed increase in MSME financing in the General Budget 2025 is a right step to boost biogas industry. With a strong push for manufacturing, green energy, and digital transformation, this Budget sets the stage for Aatmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat, an IBA statement said. From the standpoint of the fledgling biogas/CBG (compressed biogas) industry, the announced increase to the MSME Credit Guarantee Scheme will significantly benefit the biogas industry, which often faces challenge in securing credit with reasonable terms, it noted. By expanding the credit guarantee cover from Rs 5-10 crore, the scheme ensures easier access to collateral-free loans, thus reducing financial barriers for the CBG developers, it pointed out. Additionally, the revised MSME classification criteria allow for almost 2-2.5 times higher investment and turnover limits as compared to earlier regime. The amendment ensures that now even the larger-capacity CBG ...

IBA seeks blanket corporate tax holidays for compressed biogas production

Indian Biogas Association (IBA) has urged the finance ministry to create blanket corporate tax holidays for compressed biogas (CBG) production in the forthcoming General Budget to attract investment in the sector to promote this renewable energy source. Earlier this month, in a letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, IBA said that this will act as an incentive for businesses, which are willing to invest in and scale up CBG production, contributing to cleaner energy generation. "It is proposed that the government create blanket corporate tax holidays for CBG production. In particular, a complete tax waiver should be introduced for CBG producers, which provides tax relief in the initial years of operation," the industry body said. The finance minister is slated to present the Budget in Parliament on February 1. It pointed out that in FY2024-25, with around 100 functional commercial CBG plants in India at their full capacity utilisation, the total CBG sales were approximately R
