PM should not speak the language of a villain from C-grade Hindi film: Cong

The Congress on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of lowering the level of discourse during the election campaign and claimed it showed that the BJP was losing assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. After alleging that the INDIA bloc will snatch the "magalsutra" in his Lok Sabha campaign speeches, Modi has stooped to calling the opposition alliance "ghuspaithiya bandhan" (an alliance of infiltrators) and claiming it will "snatch daughters and food" in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, the party said. Congress leader Pawan Khera stated that it is unbecoming of a prime minister to use language similar to that of a "cheap villain from a C-grade Hindi film" and he should uphold the dignity of his office. Taking a dig, he also asked if Modi was criticising Home Minister Amit Shah's work by claiming that infiltrators had free rein in Jharkhand. "The level of the prime minister's language in electioneering is falling very fast. In Lok Sabha polls, while fearing defeat, he ..

Like UP, bring BJP to power in Jharkhand to 'bulldoze' mafia: Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday accused the JMM-led coalition in Jharkhand of "patronising" mafia and urged people to vote for BJP which would "bulldoze" them. Adityanath also claimed that such actions were being taken against the mafia in his home state Uttar Pradesh. He also claimed that it is the BJP that can "guarantee security and safety" to people. "The JMM-led coalition is patronising mafia in sectors, such as land, sand, forest, mining, and liquor, in Jharkhand...Like UP, bring the BJP to power in Jharkhand to bulldoze mafia," he claimed while addressing an election rally in Koderma. Adityanath also alleged, "Like Aurangzeb looted the country's wealth and destroyed temples, the JMM-led coalition and its ministers, including Alamgir Alam looted Jharkhand's people." He claimed that the BJP is the "only party" that can "guarantee the country's security and pride, women's empowerment and employment to youths". Adityanath accused the Congress of "creati

Jharkhand polls contest between people's gov and one pleasing PM: Cong

Alleging that the BJP favoured the Adani Group in setting up a power plant in Jharkhand in 2015, the Congress on Tuesday said the state polls are a contest between a government that works for the people and another that works to "please Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his cronies". In a post on X, Congress general secretary in-charge, communications, Jairam Ramesh said that in June 2015, the "Modani Group" started the process of setting up a coal power plant spread across 10 villages in Godda district of Jharkhand. "Up to 1,255 acres of land was acquired from local farmers, with widespread reports of force and intimidation being employed with full cooperation of the then BJP State Government in Jharkhand. "The non-biological PM's Government did everything it could to help the PM's favourite tempo-wallah with the project, from hastily giving clearances to declaring the power plant a SEZ," Ramesh alleged. Recently, after the regime change in Bangladesh, which was earlier procuring

MP CM Mohan Yadav hails Chhattisgarh government's anti-Naxalite operation

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday evening hailed the anti-Naxalite operation being carried out by Chhattisgarh's BJP government and termed the action as a step towards establishing 'Ram Rajya'. He offered to support Chhattisgarh, which was carved out of Madhya Pradesh on November 1, 2000, on every front and spoke about "double engine" governments (BJP in power at the Centre and in the two states). "The operation launched by the Chhattisgarh government against Naxalites is being commended and hailed by the entire country. The way our innocent villagers and tribals were being killed (in Maoist violence), this (the campaign against Naxals) is (a step towards) establishment of Ram Rajya (an ideal state) in true sense," he said. Yadav was addressing the opening ceremony of the three-day 'Chhattisgarh Rajyotsav' (statehood celebration) in Nava Raipur. "When there was demons' rule, then Lord Ram showed the path. BJP slams AAP MLA over alleged 'roads like Hema Malini's cheeks' remark

The BJP in Delhi on Monday attacked Uttam Nagar MLA Naresh Balyan over his alleged "roads like Hema Malini's cheeks" remark and demanded that AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal should expel the legislator for disrespecting women. Actor-turned-politician Malini, a senior BJP leader, is a Lok Sabha MP from Mathura. The BJP was reacting to a video clip that has surfaced on social media in which the MLA is heard purportedly saying, "All works will be completed swiftly by the 35th of the month, will make Uttam Nagar's roads like Hema Malini's cheeks." No reaction was immediately available from Balyan when contacted on his phone. The AAP too did not respond on the issue. Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor charged that Balyan has not only disrespected women but has also humiliated the people of the area by saying that roads will be repaired by the "35th" of the month. Kapoor added that the incident has established that the entire Aam Aadmi Party is "anti-women". "They are inspired b

BJP gave 33 of 68 tickets in Jharkhand to political families: Congress

Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Pariwarwaad' remark, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate on Monday claimed that the BJP itself indulged in dynastic politics, and gave out tickets for 33 of the 68 seats it is contesting in Jharkhand assembly elections to those belonging to political families. The BJP is contesting 68 of the 81 assembly seats in the state, leaving the rest for its allies. PM Modi, during an election rally in Garhwa earlier in the day, said that the JMM, Congress and RJD believe in 'Pariwarwaad' (dynastic politics). Addressing reporters here, Shrinate said, "The BJP in Jharkhand has given 33 out of 68 tickets to those who come from political families. For example, former Union minister Arjun Munda's wife, former Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das's daughter-in-law and Champai Soren's son were given tickets. So, the BJP has no right to say anything about 'Pariwarwaad'." She also alleged that the central government is sitting over Jharkhand's Rs

Waqf properties' row: BJP's protest nothing but politics, says Siddaramaiah

Upping the ante following allegations by a section of farmers in certain parts of Karnataka that their lands were marked as Waqf properties, BJP on Monday held a state-wide protest, accusing the ruling Congress government of indulging in "land jihad". The opposition party also demanded the sacking of Waqf Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan from the Cabinet. The BJP has decided to go ahead with the protest despite Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday directing officials that all notices issued to farmers be immediately revoked, and any unauthorised amendments in land records without due notice must also be nullified. There were allegations by a section of farmers from Vijayapura district that their lands were marked as Waqf properties, and similar charges have surfaced from few other places. While BJP state President B Y Vijayendra led the protest in Ballari, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly R Ashoka took part in it at K R Puram here. Similarly, various party leaders have ..

Priyanka slams BJP for 'politicising' landslide disaster in Wayanad

Continuing her criticism of the BJP, Congress leader and UDF candidate for the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypolls, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Monday that the saffron party has politicised the landslide that struck this hill district in July, claiming numerous lives and displacing many residents. Kicking off her second day of campaigning, she addressed a corner meeting at Kenichira in the Sulthan Bathery Assembly constituency. "Even a disaster that caused immense pain to people was politicised by the BJP. And this is where we start today. We stand in a place where you must think about your country, your own needs, and the kind of politics you want in our nation," the Congress general secretary remarked. Taking a dig at the saffron party, Priyanka said the BJP's politics, "which is spreading across the country, is characterised by hatred, anger, divisiveness, and destruction." She stated that real issues facing the people are being overlooked, and their problems remain unresolved. She fur

Rajasthan bypolls a test for CM Bhajanlal Sharma led months-old BJP govt

The upcoming Rajasthan Assembly bypolls will be a crucial test for the Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma-led BJP government, which will complete one year in office next month. A month after Sharma assumed office in December last year, the BJP lost the Karanpur assembly seat. In another embarrassment for the party, it lost 11 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state in the general elections. In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, all seats had gone to the BJP. These outcomes put a question mark on the performance of Sharma, a first-time MLA who was picked by the party high command over prominent leaders like Vasundhara Raje, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Diya Kumari and Kirodi Lal Meena. The November 13 bypolls will also be the first test for Rajasthan BJP president Madan Rathore, who took over the party reins after the Lok Sabha election results were announced in June. The seven seats going to polls in the state are Jhunjhunu, Dausa, Deoli-Uniara, Khinvsar, Chorasi, Salumber and Ramgarh. Of these,

Maharashtra polls: Jarange reverses stance, says no support to any party

Taking a U-turn, Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange on Monday said he will not support any contestant or party in the Maharashtra assembly polls and asked his supporters who had filed nominations to withdraw their candidature. Monday is the last day for withdrawing nominations. The state assembly elections will be held on November 20 and votes will be counted on November 23. Jarange's decision not to participate in the electoral process marks a notable shift from his earlier strategy, as he had identified certain constituencies where he intended to support or oppose some candidates. Speaking to reporters at Antarwali Sarathi village here on Monday morning, Jarange said, "After much deliberation, I have decided not to field any candidate in the state. The Maratha community will decide on its own whom to defeat and whom to elect. I have no affiliation to or support for any candidate or political party." The activist asserted he was not under any pressure from the ruling Mahayuti or

Congress questions PM Modi over promises made to people of Jharkhand

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's poll campaign in Jharkhand, the Congress on Monday asked him about the promises he has made to the people of the state and said he should fulfil them before seeking a single vote. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh posed a set of three questions to the PM, reminding him of his promise of setting up the Korba-Lohardaga and Chatra-Gaya railway lines, besides setting of engineering and medical colleges in Jharkhand. Assembly elections in Jharkhand are due in two phases on November 13 and 20, where the BJP is seeking to wrest power from the JMM-Congress combine. "The non-biological PM is in Jharkhand today. Three questions he should answer before seeking a single vote - Where is the Korba-Lohardaga and Chatra-Gaya railway lines," Ramesh asked in a post on X. He said the people of Lohardaga and Chatra have been demanding better rail connectivity for years as it would improve locals' access to education and employment opportunities. "Sadly,

Maha polls: BJP rebel Gopal Shetty announces withdrawal of nomination

Senior leader and former MP Gopal Shetty, who had filed nomination as an independent after the BJP denied ticket to him, on Monday announced withdrawal of his candidature from Borivali assembly seat in Mumbai. The BJP has nominated Sanjay Upadhyay from the Borivali seat for the November 20 state assembly polls. Monday is the last day for withdrawing nominations. On Sunday, BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde held a meeting with Shetty to persuade him to withdraw his nomination. Speaking to reporters on Monday, Shetty said, "I am withdrawing my nomination today. My objection was to the BJP's style of functioning where decisions were taken without any consultation with party workers like me. The party was consistently nominating candidates for the assembly elections from outside, and it was presumed that it was being carried out with my consultation." "I was never consulted when candidates were selected for the Borivali assembly segment (in the past). I am a party worker and

Kharge challenges PM to address real issues, not lies about opposition

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday alleged that the BJP's "anti-people" policies are "corroding" India's economy and challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to speak about real issues facing common people in his future election rallies, instead of "spewing lies" against the Opposition. Kharge said fake narratives cannot be a substitute for real welfare. "Have a look at the economic turmoil you have created by looting ordinary citizens of their last paisa! Even the festive cheer could not lift the spirits of India's economy - reeling under low consumption, high inflation, widening inequality, dampened investment and wage stagnation," the Congress chief said in a post on X. Even industry captains are forced to talk about 'missing middle class' syndrome, as the Modi government deals a "body blow" to the poor and middle class by imposing "back-breaking" price rise and wiping out their savings through mindless taxation, he alleged. "5 undeniable facts -- Food Inflation is

CM Shinde lauds Ladki Bahin scheme, terms MVA 'Maha Vasooli Aghadi'

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has asserted his government is focusing on welfare schemes like 'Ladki Bahin Yojana' to enrich the lives of women and said he intends to increase the monthly aid under the scheme. Ahead of the November 20 Maharashtra assembly polls, Shinde on Sunday also targeted the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi while dubbing it as "Maha Vasooli Aghadi" (alliance for extortion). The November instalment under the 'Ladki Bahin' scheme has already been deposited in the accounts of beneficiaries and the amount for December would also be given soon after the assembly polls, the CM said. Under the scheme, women with an annual family income of less than Rs 2.5 lakh are given Rs 1,500 per month as aid. Shinde was speaking at rallies in Kurla and Andheri East in Mumbai, which kickstarted the Shiv Sena's poll campaign. The CM said his government was committed to making Mumbai slum-free and ensuring affordable houses for the poor. There has been a transformative chang
