BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Ram Chander Jangra said he had a narrow escape after a canter-truck allegedly chased his SUV from Sirsa district to his home in Meham and tried to hit him. A security personnel accompanying the MP filed a police complaint after the incident took place on Thursday evening. Giving details of the incident, Jangra told PTI on Friday that he was returning from Sirsa district to Meham in Rohtak when his security personnel accompanying him found that there was a traffic jam near Meham's Old Bus stand area. Jangra's gunman got down from the SUV and tried to find out why vehicles were not moving ahead. "He found out that a canter truck in the middle of the road was not moving ahead causing the traffic bottleneck. My gunman tried to get the traffic cleared and told the truck driver to move along one side of the road and also allow other vehicles to pass," Jangra said. "However, the truck driver misbehaved with my gunman, who, however, did not want to escalate the matter
AAP on Friday demanded that the BJP should apologise to the country for keeping a "staunchly honest" leader like Arvind Kejriwal in jail, and said the Supreme Court order granting him bail in the excise policy case has exposed the BJP's "lies". At a joint press conference here, senior AAP leader and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said the Supreme Court order granting bail to Kejriwal was a moment of "big relief" for the party and its leaders and workers. "It is not just the issue of bail granted to Kejriwal. The court has also given a big message to the BJP-led Centre to stop its dictatorship," he said. He said the top court order is important not just for AAP but also as an assurance that if anyone resorted to "dictatorship", the Supreme Court would ensure the dominance of the Constitution. The BJP was using the agencies to keep Kejriwal in jail, Sisodia alleged, adding that the CBI deliberately arrested Kejriwal to keep him in prison. "The BJP intended to keep Kejri
The Madhya Pradesh Congress on Friday alleged that some BJP workers and their relatives were behind the incident of assault on two army officers and rape of their woman friend near Indore's Mhow. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, rubbished the allegation and accused the opposition party of creating a "false perception" on the issue. It also said the state government is very sensitive in such matters and that the accused in the Mhow case will not be able to escape. Two army officers were assaulted and one of their two women friends was allegedly raped in the wee hours of Wednesday near popular tourist spot Jam Gate, about 30 km from Mhow military cantonment. Police have arrested three of the six accused so far. Talking to reporters, MP Congress president Jitu Patwari said, "It has been proven again that whenever incidents like rape and atrocities against women come to the fore, the names of BJP workers and leaders crop up. Behind the Mhow incident also, the names of .

Workers and leaders of Maharashtra BJP on Friday held state-wide protests against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on reservation during his visit to the US. While Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule said it was necessary to stage a protest to tell people about Gandhi's mentality against reservation, Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat accused the saffron party of spreading fake news and doing "nautanki" (drama). Gandhi, who is in the US, told students of Georgetown University that the Congress would think of scrapping reservations when India is a fair place, which he said is not the case right now. During a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington, the Leader of Opposition alleged that democracy in India for the last 10 years was broken, but now it is fighting back. The BJP announced a state-wide protest over Gandhi's "anti-reservation" remarks. In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra Housing Minister Atul Save staged a demonstration wit
The Leader of Opposition in Jharkhand Assembly Amar Bauri said the central government had informed the high court that illegal Bangladeshi immigrants are living in the state, which the JMM-led alliance government has been denying for "vote bank". In an affidavit filed before a division bench of acting Chief Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad and Justice Arun Kumar Rai on Thursday, the Centre said Bangladeshis illegally entered Jharkhand through Sahebgunj and Pakur districts. There is also a "sizeable decrease" in the tribal population due to "high conversion of tribals and low birth rate" among them, it said. The senior BJP leader said that they have been raising the issue for a long time but the JMM-led alliance government has been denying the threat of infiltration. "The JMM-led government is engaged in patronizing Bangladeshi infiltrators in Jharkhand for vote bank and appeasement," he alleged while addressing reporters at state BJP headquarters here on Thursday. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has said that certain individuals from a party were making objectionable remarks targeting a specific community, asserting that the NCP strongly opposes such language. He was apparently referring to BJP MLA Nitesh Rane, who in a recent video can be seen telling a gathering that they should have business transactions only with Hindus. Kankvali MLA Nitesh Rane, son of former Union minister Narayan Rane, was earlier in the eye of a storm for threatening Muslims over the community's protests against offensive remarks by Nashik-based spiritual leader Ramgiri Maharaj. Addressing a gathering in Chakan here, Pawar said on Thursday, Today, certain individuals from a political party use denigrating language targeting a particular community and religion. We do not support such language and we strongly oppose it. This kind of objectionable language creates rift in society. He also asked the gathering not to be emotional while voting and sought their
The upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are historic as they are the first since the region "became secular", BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said on Thursday. He emphasised that these elections represented a choice between nationalist and anti-national forces. "In these assembly elections, people must choose between those promising peace and development and those promising death and destruction," Trivedi told reporters. After the 42nd amendment to the Indian Constitution, Jammu and Kashmir adopted a six-year term for its assembly but did not explicitly include the word 'secular' in its constitution, he alleged. "At that time, Jammu and Kashmir had its own constitution. After the abrogation of Article 370, there is now a unified Constitution," he said. He also claimed these were the first elections in Jammu and Kashmir after Other Backward Classes (OBCs) received reservation. Trivedi said, "These elections are significant as they are the first after Jammu
The BJP's Lok Sabha MPs from Delhi met Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Thursday and requested him to intervene for a notification of more than 350 roads for mixed-land use and granting of ownership rights to property owners in 69 colonies. They also requested Saxena for a provision of alternative plots to be given to farmers in exchange for their acquired land, South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said in a statement. The delegation included Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Yogendra Chandolia, Praveen Khandelwal and Bansuri Swaraj. In 2007, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) passed a proposal to use 351 roads as mixed-use and commercial land and sent it to the city government, but the latter has not notified it to date, Bidhuri said. Additionally, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government halted the policy that provided alternative residential plots to farmers whose land was acquired, he claimed. Around 16,000 applications remain pending, the BJP leader said,
