Vote for AAP to build new Haryana: Sunita Kejriwal at Hisar rally

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal on Sunday accused the BJP government in Haryana of "not undertaking any development work" in the last 10 years and asked the people to vote for the AAP in the upcoming assembly polls to build a "new Haryana". Assembly polls in Haryana are due later this year and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced that it will contest all the 90 seats in the state. The party has contested several polls in Haryana, but it has yet to taste electoral success in the state. Addressing a gathering here, Sunita Kejriwal asked the people to press the button with the 'jhadu' (AAP's poll symbol) symbol on election day to build a "new Haryana" while asserting that the AAP government in Delhi has "transformed" government schools and hospitals and made electricity free. "In the last 10 years, what development has been done in Haryana by the BJP?" she said, adding that the people of Haryana must ensure that the saffron party does not win even a singl

Maha BJP chief Bawankule criticises Thackeray amid rising political rift

Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule has launched a scathing attack on Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, claiming the former chief minister has abandoned the "bhagwa" (saffron) ideology and distanced himself from the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Bawankule's comments come in the wake of Thackeray's speech to party workers in Thane on Saturday, where he accused Chief Minister Eknath Shinde of capitulating to Delhi and declared the upcoming assembly elections as a battle against those who "hate" Maharashtra. During his address, Thackeray referred to his party workers as his 'wagh-nakh' (tiger-claw), a symbolic reference to a weapon used by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in historic battles. The former CM did not shy away from controversy, previously labelling BJP leader Amit Shah as "Ahmed Shah Abdali" after Shah accused Thackeray of leading the "Aurangzeb fan club". In a post on social media platform X, Bawankule derided Thackeray, asserting, "Aurangzeb fan

BJP always tries to weaken reservation fight, says SP chief Akhilesh

SP president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday attacked the ruling BJP amid the controversy over sub-classification and creamy layer in SC-ST reservation and alleged the BJP government always tries to weaken the fight for reservation through its vague statements and lawsuits. Yadav wrote on 'X' in Hindi, "The main objective of any kind of reservation should be the empowerment of the neglected society, not the division or disintegration of that society, this violates the basic principle of reservation itself." The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister was apparently referring to the recent Supreme Court judgment allowing sub-classifications within the Scheduled Castes (SCs). "The discrimination and unequal opportunities that have been going on for countless generations cannot be bridged by the changes that have come in a few generations," he said in the same post. "'Reservation' is the constitutional way to empower and strengthen the exploited, deprived society, this is what will bring about .

NDA eyes majority in Rajya Sabha after bypolls for 12 seats next month

The BJP-led NDA is expected to achieve a clear majority in Rajya Sabha after bye-elections for 12 seats scheduled next month, which would help the party get the nod for key legislations such as the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. In the upper house with the current effective strength of 229, the BJP has 87 MPs and with its allies the number is 105. Among the key fence-sitters are the YSR Congress Party with 11 members and BJD with eight members. Elections to the 12 vacant Rajya Sabha seats in nine states will be held on September 3. The Election Commission has announced 12 separate elections for each of the seats, handing over a clear advantage to the ruling party in the state. The BJP and its allies are expected to win 11

Hindenburg row: Congress interested in anarchy, controversies, says Scindia

Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Sunday accused the Congress of spreading anarchy and controversies over the Hindenburg Research's allegations against SEBI chairperson Madhabi Buch. A political firestorm erupted after the US short-seller alleged that it suspects SEBI's unwillingness to act against the Adani group may be because its head Madhabi Puri Buch had stakes in offshore funds linked to the conglomerate. "Congress's work is only to spread anarchy and entangle the country in controversial matters," said Scindia while responding to reporters' query on the Hindenburg Research report. The Guna MP said PM Narendra Modi and BJP workers are carrying the torch of development and progress, whereas the Congress has been trying to mislead the country and keep it in the dark for years. The SEBI has slammed Hindenburg Research's allegations as "baseless" while the Adani group said it never had any commercial relations with Buch. Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband Dhav

Eliminate conflicts of interest in Sebi's probe of Adani Group: Congress

In the wake of the US short-seller Hindenburg Research levelling allegations against Sebi chairperson Madhabi Buch, the Congress on Saturday demanded the Centre act immediately to eliminate all conflicts of interest in the regulator's investigation of the Adani Group. The opposition party also said the "seeming complicity of the highest officials of the land" can only be resolved by setting up a Joint Parliamentary Committee to investigate the full scope of the "scam". The Hindenburg Research on Saturday launched a fresh broadside against market regulator Sebi chairperson Madhabi Buch, alleging she and her husband had stakes in obscure offshore funds used in the Adani money siphoning scandal. In a blogpost, Hindenburg said 18 months since its damning report on Adani, "SEBI has shown a surprising lack of interest in Adani's alleged undisclosed web of Mauritius and offshore shell entities." No immediate comments were available from Securities and Exchange Board of India, whose X acco

Assembly polls is fight against those who hate Maharashtra: Uddhav

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday accused Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde of "bowing" before Delhi, and said the coming assembly elections are a fight against those who "hate" the state. Speaking at a party workers' gathering in Thane city, Shinde's bastion, he also accused the state government of "bribing" voters with the announcement of its flagship scheme Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin Yojana months ahead of the elections, due in October. Women should take benefit of the scheme as it is their own money, but should not compromise on self-respect, the former chief minister added. "They are bowing before Delhi," Thackeray said, attacking Shinde who heads the rival Shiv Sena, adding that the Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray's struggle was about refusing to bow before Delhi. "The state assembly fight will be with the ones who hate Maharashtra," Thackeray added. Earlier, as Thackeray arrived for the event at the Gadkari Rangayatan auditorium here, workers of the ..

The former Delhi deputy chief minister urged the new allies of the BJP-led NDA as well as the opposition INDIA bloc parties to unite against "dictatorship", not just to save their leaders from being imprisoned but most importantly in the interest of the country. The Aam Aadmi Party is part of the INDIA bloc. In the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, the AAP and another INDIA bloc constituent Congress fought the elections together. MVA gave contract to frame, jail me in false cases, says Fadnavis

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday alleged that during the erstwhile Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, a "contract" was given to some officials to frame him and other BJP leaders in false cases and put them behind bars. Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, he said the Uddhav Thackeray-led dispensation failed to put him and other BJP leaders in jail as many good officials refused to lodge false cases against them. Fadnavis was responding to a query about former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh's allegation that former home minister Anil Deshmukh pressured him to file false cases against certain BJP leaders. "What he (Singh) said about efforts being made to arrest me and other BJP leaders is completely true. He only talked about one incident, but there are four such incidents wherein conspiracies were hatched to arrest me in false cases," he said. "However, we were able to expose those conspiracies at that time. We also gave video evidence of ...
