Register as voters to defeat vested powers: Farooq Abdullah to J&K natives

National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Monday urged the natives of Jammu and Kashmir to register themselves in the electoral rolls so the "powers" that intend to "import temporary voters to win seats" are defeated. He said the first assembly elections in the Union territory will not just be about electing a government or forming a ministry but protecting Jammu and Kashmir's identity and dignity. "Allowing non-locals to vote in Jammu and Kashmir will be disastrous. The powers that are pitted against NC are so insecure about the support from genuine voters that they have to import temporary voters to win seats," Abdullah said at a workers' convention in Shopian. The Lok Sabha MP from Srinagar said such "nefarious designs" will not help if the people of the now Union territory get to exercise their franchise. "It is for you to stop them No one else can. If you come out and register as voters and subsequently vote in huge numbers, there is nothing that can touch our uniq

BJP's doors permanently shut on Bihar CM Nitish, says Sushil Modi

Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Monday asserted that the doors of his party were "permanently shut" for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who dumped it last month, causing the saffron party to lose power in the state. Modi, widely perceived to have been sidelined in his party on account of his proximity to Kumar, came out with a statement claiming that it will not be long before the JD(U) leader did yet another volte face. The former Bihar deputy CM, who has transitioned into a virulent critic of his ex-boss, alleged, "Nitish Kumar has put chameleons to shame in changing colours." Modi, often credited with having wooed back Kumar into the NDA five years ago, was peeved at the chief minister having told his party workers on Sunday that aligning with the BJP again in 2017 "was a mistake". The Rajya Sabha MP raked up the short-lived chief ministership of Jitan Ram Manjhi, who replaced Kumar when the latter stepped down in 2014, only to be elbowed out to facilitate the return of

BJP to oppose introduction of any bill during Jharkhand Assembly session

Opposition BJP in Jharkhand will take part in the special session of the assembly on Monday, but oppose any attempt by the state government to introduce bills during its duration, party leaders said. The decision was taken at the legislative party meeting here late on Sunday. It will meet again around 9 am to finalise the party's strategy for the assembly session during which Chief Minister Hemant Soren will seek a vote of trust. We will participate in the special session. But, the BJP would strongly protest if the government tries to bring in any bill, as there is a one-line agenda in the schedule, which says the CM will seek a trust vote, party whip Biranchi Narayan told PTI. As per a letter sent to MLAs by the assembly secretariat, Soren has expressed his willingness to move a motion of confidence to prove his majority. Following a petition by the BJP seeking Soren's disqualification from the assembly in an office-of-profit case, the Election Commission (EC) communicated its ..

Rahul Gandhi re-launch 4.0 as no one wants to head Congress, says BJP

The BJP on Sunday dubbed the Congress rally against price rise as "Rahul Gandhi relaunch 4.0" because, it said, no leader of the opposition party wants to head it. The Congress on Sunday held a 'Mehngai par halla bol' rally at the Ramlila Maidan here, which was addressed by former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and a host of other party leaders. Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters here, BJP national spokesperson Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said the real purpose of Congress rally is to save Gandhi family and re-launch the family scion Rahul Gandhi. "This rally is meant to save the family and not to protest against price rise. And to relaunch Rahul Gandhi, who has been launched several times in politics. This rally is 'Rahul Gandhi relaunch 4.0', as no one wants to lead the Congress," Rathore said. He said that the Congress party "has lost 90 per cent of the elections since 2014. Hatred and anger rising in India since BJP govt came at Centre: Rahul

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP of weakening the country by spreading fear and hatred, and said only the Congress can unite the country and take it to the path of progress. Launching an all out attack on the Modi government at the 'Mehangai Par Halla Bol' rally at Ramlila Maidan here, he said the government has shut the path of the Opposition from speaking in Parliament, and the "only way for us is to talk directly to people and tell the truth of the country to people and hear them out". He said this is precisely why the Congress party is starting the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' which will help talk directly to people and discuss their issues. Accusing Modi, the BJP and the RSS of spreading fear and hatred, and weakening the country, the Congress scion said it will not benefit India, but China and Pakistan. He accused the Modi dispensation of being unable to provide employment and benefit only select two big industrialists,

BJP says inflation under control due to PM's policies, slams Congress

Hitting back at the Congress for its criticism on the issue of price rise, the BJP on Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought the inflation rate under control despite adverse circumstances which is being "appreciated" by citizens but the Congress party is not able to see it. BJP national general secretary and in-charge for Rajasthan Arun Singh said inflation rate in other countries has gone up to 20-25 percent but it is the vision and policies of the prime minister that inflation is under control. Inflation is not going to be an issue here because the prime minister has controlled the inflation, Singh told reporters when asked about the issue of inflation being raised by the Congress. Singh is in Jaipur to attend the core committee meeting of the state unit. Look at the neighbouring countries of Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, even you go and see in the UK or US...the way inflation has increased in the countries of the world, 10 percent, 15 percent and up to 20-25 ...
