China's former trade negotiator questions tariff strategy

China's former top trade negotiator has questioned Beijing's strategy in the trade row with Washington, offering a rare window into a policy disagreement in the Communist-ruled country. Long Yongtu, who paved the way for the country's admission to the World Trade Organisation, suggested the government erred by immediately retaliating against Washington tariffs by imposing levies on soybeans from the United States. "I hope when you start hitting back you'll avoid hitting agricultural products," and leave them for last, Long said he advised before the trade war's first tariff volley this summer. Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) sign $300 Million Loan to support India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited (IIFCL)

Mr. Kenichi Yokoyama, Country Director of ADB's India Resident Mission who signed the agreement for ADB, said that ADB funding is expected to fund at least 13 sub-projects through IIFCL, involving roads and renewable power generation, under the last tranche. The Project supports the renewed effort of the Government of India in accelerating infrastructure growth through increased Private Sector investment. The Project is relevant and responsive to the constraints to bank based infrastructure financing, fiscal space creation, and repercussions on GDP growth.

Sensex rises over 150 pts ahead of RBI board meet

The benchmark BSE Sensex surged over 150 points and the broader NSE Nifty went past the 10,700 mark in opening trade Monday on the back of widespread gains ahead of the Reserve Bank of India's board meet amid capital inflows by foreign funds. Positive leads from other Asian markets too influenced sentiments here. The 30-share index was trading 190.81 points, or 0.54 per cent, higher at 35,647.61 points. Sectoral indices, led by realty, metal, auto, IT indices and bankex, advanced up to 1.44 per cent. The barometer had gained 315.17 points in the previous two sessions. Similarly, the NSE Nifty was up 43.10 points, or 0.40 per cent, at 10,725.30 points. Investors are awaiting cues from the Reserve Bank of India's board meet later in the day.
