Shares of Tata Consultancy Services rose 4 per cent today after the company posted better-than-expected earnings. The stock after making a positive opening further jumped 3.78 per cent to Rs 1,948 -- its 52-week high -- on BSE. It was the top gainer in the Sensex pack during the morning trade. At NSE, shares of the company gained 3.98 per cent to Rs 1,949.90. "TCS first quarter results were better-than-expected on all fronts against our/street estimates," Emkay Global Financial Services said in a report. Jeera prices fell by Rs 190 to Rs 18,340 per quintal in futures trade today, as speculators trimmed positions to book profits at prevailing levels amid lower domestic and exports demand. Furthermore, higher arrivals also pressured on the jeera prices at future trade. At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in August fell by Rs 190, or 1.02 per cent, to trade at Rs 18,340 per quintal with an open interest of 5,685 lots. Similarly, the spice for delivery in the current month moved down by Rs 185, or 1 per cent, to trade at Rs 18,135 per quintal in 912 lots. Analysts said besides profit-booking by speculators at existing levels, a fall in demand at the spot market against adequate stocks position, kept pressure on jeera futures.

The Bengaluru-based developer has sought shareholders' approval for the proposed issue of non-convertible debentures (NCDs) on a private placement basis. In a notice to shareholders for convening the annual general meeting (AGM), the company said that the board is contemplating the feasibility of borrowing money through issue of NCDs. The meeting is scheduled to be held on August 7.
