Rupee falls 10 paise to 68.98 against US dollar in early trade

The rupee fell 10 paise to 68.98 against the US dollar in early trade Thursday on increased demand for the greenback from importers and banks. At the interbank forex market, the rupee opened lower at 69.04 and weakened further to 69.06. However, it recovered partially to quote 10 paise down at 68.98 against the dollar at 0924 hrs. On Wednesday, the rupee had weakened marginally by 2 paise to close at 68.88 against the US dollar. Forex dealers said, strengthening of the American currency in overseas market weighed on the domestic currency. However, sustained foreign fund inflows and higher opening in domestic equities supported the rupee and restricted the fall. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net buyers in the capital markets, putting in Rs 1,481.11 crore Wednesday, as per provisional data. Pak PM launches poverty alleviation prog

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday launched a mega scheme that aimed at reducing poverty and providing support to vulnerable groups, especially women. Addressing an event after launching the programme named 'Ehsas' (compassion), Khan said his government will amend the Constitution to make the state mandatorily fulfil the basic needs of food, clothes, shelter and health. He also announced to increase spending for the poor people to Rs 80 billion, which will be further increased to Rs 120 billion by 2020. Khan also announced to set up a Ministry for Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation. He said saving accounts will be opened for 5.7 million poor women and mobile phones will be provided to them to access their bank accounts.

Fitbit bets on affordable wearables to drive India growth

US-based Fitbit Wednesday said it is expanding its product range in India, including launching more affordable devices like Inspire, to drive its growth in the burgeoning wearables market. Fitbit will also enhance its app in the coming days that will offer users a more personal experience and help them understand their health data better. "In our last investor call, Asia Pacific was called out as a big driver for business globally, we have contributed to the Asia and the global story...With the new range, we want to make health and fitness accessible to more consumers across the country," Fitbit India Country General Manager Alok Shankar told PTI. The company does not disclose country-specific revenue and shipment details. BSE gets nod to launch interest rates futures on overnight MIBOR

Leading stock exchange BSE Wednesday said it has received approvals to launch interest rates futures on overnight MIBOR (Mumbai Inter-Bank Offer Rate). In this regard, the bourse has got clearance from the Sebi and the RBI, according to a release. MIBOR is the interest rate at which banks borrow from one another for short term purposes. Financial Benchmarks India Pvt Ltd announces the overnight MIBOR on a daily basis and it is computed by the Clearing Corporation of India (CCIL). "With the opportunity to introduce interest rates futures on overnight MIBOR, market participants will be able to forecast and manage interest rate risk on the BSE," the exchange's MD and CEO Ashishkumar Chauhan said. MIBOR rate is based on trade-weighted interbank call money transactions on the Negotiated Dealing System call platform of CCIL between 9 am and 10 am. MSME networking portal launched

The Telangana government Wednesdaylaunched a MSME networking portal, Telangana State GlobalLinker (ts-msme.globallinker.com) to digitize over 2. 3 million MSMEs of the state. "Digitization is going to be one of the game changers for MSME businesses as it helps them cater to customers beyond local boundaries, allows their profit to grow twice as fast and substantially increases their contribution to GDP,"an official release quoted Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Industries, as saying at an event. "The solution aims to address key challenges faced by MSMEs with the core objective of making their business growth simpler, more profitable and enjoyable," he said. Healofy raises Rs 55 cr from BabyTree, BAce Capital and Omidyar Network India

Women-centric social network Healofy Wednesday said it has raised USD 8 million (about Rs 55 crore) from BabyTree Group, BAce Capital and existing investor Omidyar Network India. Founded in September 2016 by Gaurav Aggarwal and Shubham Maheshwari, Healofy aims to address the growing demand for relatable and credible content for Indian women in the age group of 21-35.
