The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday alleged that FIIT JEE coaching institute collected more than Rs 200 crore as fee from thousands of students and their parents but "did not" deliver the educational service indicating "serious" financial irregularities and siphoning of funds. The federal probe agency said in a statement that it seized Rs 10 lakh in cash, jewellery worth Rs 4.89 crore after it conducted searches on April 24 as part of a money laundering investigation and covered premises including that of FIIT JEE Director D K Goel, other executives of the company and their offices. The raids covered seven premises in Noida, Delhi and Gurugram. FIIT JEE or its promoters could not be contacted for a comment on the charges made by the ED against them. Delhi govt to offer free CUET, NEET online coaching to 163K students

The Delhi government on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BIG Institute to offer free crash courses to students for CUET and NEET preparation after Class 12. The agreement, signed between the Delhi Directorate of Education and BIG Institute, will provide free online coaching for NEET and CUET to 1.63 lakh government school students. The signing took place in the presence of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Education Minister Ashish Sood. Sood said that the programme will begin on April 1 and will include 180 hours of coaching over 30 days, with six hours of classes per day. Chief Minister Gupta said the initiative aims to help government school students secure admissions in medical and engineering colleges. "With this, more and more students from Delhi government schools will get the opportunity to enrol in good colleges and successfully clear entrance exams for medical and engineering programmes," she said.

Bill to control, regulate coaching centres introduced in Rajasthan Assembly

The Rajasthan government on Wednesday introduced in the state Assembly the Rajasthan Coaching Centres (Control and Regulation) Bill having provisions like mandatory registration of all coaching centres, setting up of an authority to regulate coaching centres and a penalty from Rs 2-5 lakh for the violation of registration rules. The bill, introduced by Higher Education Minister Prem Chand Bairwa, assumes significance in view of suicide cases that have happened mostly in Kota, a hub of coaching centres offering courses for entrance in prestigious medical and engineering colleges across the country. After enactment, no coaching centre in the state will be allowed to establish or run without obtaining a valid registration certificate. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police has filed a case against FIIT JEE Ltd for allegedly failing to provide the services it promised to students and abruptly ceasing operations mid-January, an official said on Thursday. Coaching institutes refund Rs 1.56 cr to students after govt intervention

More than 600 students have received refunds of Rs 1.56 crore from coaching institutes after the intervention of the Department of Consumer Affairs. According to an official statement on Saturday, the department has "successfully secured refunds amounting to Rs 1.56 crore for over 600 aspirants and students in the education sector." These students, enrolled in coaching centres for civil services, engineering courses and other programmes, were previously denied rightful refunds despite following the terms and conditions set forth by the coaching institutes, it added.
