New dress code for Parliament staff kicks off row around BJP poll symbol

A new dress code with floral motif for Parliament staff kicked off a political row on Tuesday with the Congress dubbing it as "cheap" tactics to promote the ruling party's poll symbol. According to an internal circular issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the marshals, security staff and officials, chamber attendants and drivers have been issued new uniforms which they have to don once the new parliament building starts functioning. The 'bandhgala' suit of bureaucrats will be replaced with a magenta or deep pink Nehru jacket. The shirts for them will also have floral design. The employees will wear khaki-coloured pants. The new attire for the marshals in both houses of Parliament will now include Manipuri turbans. The Parliament Security Staff will be seen in army camouflage pattern fatigues instead of the blue safari suits. Women officers have been assigned bright coloured sarees with jackets to be worn during winters. The Congress accused the BJP of making the "Parliament a ...

LDF, Cong-led UDF trade charges over installation of AI cameras in Kerala

The ruling LDF in Kerala on Tuesday slammed the Congress-led opposition UDF for questioning in the Assembly as to why Keltron, which allegedly makes no components, was given the contract for installing artificial intelligence (AI) cameras in the state. State Transport Minister Antony Raju and Industries Minister P Rajeev said it was a highly unfair and irresponsible statement by senior Congress MLA Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan that public sector undertaking (PSU) Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd (Keltron) makes no components. The Ministers contended that it was Radhakrishnan himself, when he was Home Minister in the previous UDF government, who used the PSU's services to set up cameras across Kerala at a much higher cost than the AI cameras project. They also sought to remind that components made by Keltron were used in Chandrayaan-3 and Adithya L1 missions of ISRO. "So kindly do not say that Keltron is just a mute spectator. You should be ready to withdraw your

PM's 'global talk' on environment at G20 at odds from 'local walk': Cong

The Congress on Sunday dubbed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks on environment at the G20 Summit as "sheer hypocrisy", and claimed his "global talk" is completely at odds from the "local walk". Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused the Modi government of comprehensively dismantling India's environmental protections and snatching away the rights of the most vulnerable communities dependent on forests. "The PM's statements at the G20 and other summits globally are sheer hypocrisy. While destroying protections for India's forests and biodiversity, and diluting the rights of Adivasis and forest-dwelling communities, he talks of environment, climate action and equity. "The 'Global Talk' is completely at odds from the 'Local Walk'," Ramesh said in a statement. He said during a Doordarshan chat with students in 2014, the prime minister had said, The climate has not changed, we have changed. "The self-styled Vishwaguru has come a long way in hypocrisy. The prime minister has used the
