Defence sector was like a 'club' for Congress to 'plunder nation': PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday took a swipe at Congress leaders, who allegedly tried to mislead employees of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited employees a few years ago when the Indian Army was deployed on the border, and said they are not even talking about the public sector company now. He also claimed that the defence sector was like "a club for the Congress which their close relatives could plunder". In an apparent reference to former Congress president Rahul Gandhi's allegations of irregularities in the Rafale deal and taking away jobs from HAL, Modi said: "Remember the lies they had spread four-five years ago. They tried to mislead the HAL workers. It was done at a time when our Army was deployed on the border. In this election, the Congress leaders are not at all spelling out the name of HAL." According to him, the reason behind the Congress' silence on HAL was that this was for the first time since its inception, the HAL made a record profit. The Prime Minister said ...

Cong is ready with plan to loot Karnataka if voted to power: BJP

The Congress is ready with a plan to loot Karnataka if voted to power and has a rate card for "transfer, posting and commission", the BJP said on Friday after the opposition party released "corruption rate card" posters to attack its rival in the poll-bound state. Ahead of the May 10 assembly polls in Karnataka, the Congress through the posters as well as advertisements also accused the BJP of having "sold governance" in the state during its tenure. Hitting back, BJP's Karnataka in-charge Arun Singh said, "The Congress in Karnataka has announced its rate list for transfer, posting and commission before the people. If voted to power, there is a complete plan (of the Congress) to loot but this will remain a dream for the party. People know everything." "The BJP is going to form its 'double engine' government with full majority under the leadership of (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi ji," he asserted in a tweet in Hindi. Cong gave shelter to terror for the sake of vote bank politics: PM Modi

Mounting a fresh attack on the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday alleged that for the sake of vote bank politics, it has nurtured, given shelter and surrendered before terror. He said the movie 'The Kerala Story' is said to be a work based on the terrorists' deceitful policies and conspiracies in just one state, and accused the Congress of indulging in backdoor political bargaining with people having terror inclinations. "To make Karnataka number one state in the country, law and order is important. Karnataka remaining free from terror is equally important. BJP has always been harsh against terror. But whenever there is action against terror Congress will get a stomach ache," Modi said. Addressing a public meeting here ahead of the May 10 Assembly polls in the state, Modi said today the whole world is worried about the danger of terror and that India too has on several occasions suffered due to it. No question of banning Bajrang Dal if it plays by rule-book: Cong's Moily

There is no question of banning the Bajrang Dal if it plays by the rule-book and behaves itself, senior Congress leader M Veerappa Moily said on Friday, as his party's manifesto proposing to outlaw the outfit continues to come under fire from the BJP. Speaking to PTI, Moily said the reference should be viewed as the Congress issuing some kind of a notice and warning to Bajrang Dal, and not as if the party is going to ban it if it's voted to power in the May 10 Assembly elections in Karnataka. On this issue, the former Chief Minister indicated that the Congress would adopt the approach of the then Home Minister Vallabhbhai Patel who, he said, lifted the ban on RSS after receiving an undertaking from the organisation that it would not indulge in "illegal activities". The Congress in its manifesto for the Assembly polls released earlier this week said it was committed to take firm and decisive action against individuals and organisations spreading hatred amongst communities on grounds

Bommai junks pre-polls surveys giving Cong an edge; says BJP will win

Junking pre-poll surveys giving opposition Congress an edge in the May 10 Assembly elections in the state , Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday exuded confidence his party BJP will retain power with a "comfortable majority" and without the JD(S)' support. In an interview to PTI, Bommai said whether he will continue as CM in the event of the saffron party coming to power will be decided by the BJP high command and its Parliamentary Board. He also said former chief minister Jagadish Shettar, who defected to Congress over denial of a BJP ticket to yet again contest from Hubli-Dharwad Central, will lose this time. Whereas, the 14 defectors who helped the BJP topple the Congress-JD(S) government in 2019 will win from their respective segments. Bommai also alleged the Congress has taken the election discourse to a "very low level". "There was no edge to Congress at all. We know how surveys are made. I am expecting a comfortable majority," Bommai said, and added the party

BJP 'sold governance' in Karnataka, alleges Congress; calls it corrupt

The Congress on Friday described the outgoing BJP government in Karnataka as "corrupt" and accused it of having "sold governance" in the southern state. Ahead of the May 10 Karnataka assembly election, the Congress released a set of posters listing out the "corruption rates" in the state between 2019 and 2023 while dubbing the BJP government a "trouble engine". The Congress has been hitting out at the BJP government in Karnataka with the "40 per cent commission sarkar" jibe. The "40 per cent commission' row erupted in the southern state following the death of Belagavi-based contractor Santosh Patil who had earlier alleged that then minister K S Eshwarappa demanded 40 per cent commission for the release of funds for the civil works undertaken by him at a village. Posting a photo of the "corruption rates" poster released by the Congress, the party's general secretary, communications, Jairam Ramesh tweeted, "The rate at which BJP has sold governance in Karnataka. Cong slams Shah over 'BJP stands for promotion of all languages' remark

The Congress on Friday hit out at Home Minister Amit Shah's reported remarks that the BJP stands for promotion of all languages, alleging that the Modi government had spent Rs 640 crore to promote Sanskrit while just Rs 3 crore on promotion of Kannada. Shah, in an interview to The Hindu, said the BJP stands for the promotion of all Indian languages and the accusation that it promotes Hindi at the cost of regional languages is politically motivated. Reacting to the remarks, Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said in a tweet, "The HM has claimed in an interview that the BJP stands for 'promotion' of all languagesIs that why the Modi Govt has spent Rs 640 cr to promote Sanskrit and JUST Rs 3 cr to support promotion of Kannada, one of the six classical languages of the country?" Is that why the man who insulted the great Kuvempu, who penned the state anthem, was made Chairman of the textbook revision committee by "the 40% Commission Sarkara" in Karnataka,

Congress on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for invoking the name of Lord Hanuman in the election rallies in Karnataka.
