The government is planning to launch a nationwide programme to rope in dairy and fishery cooperative societies as banking correspondents to expand financial services in rural areas, a top official said on Wednesday. Ministry of Cooperation Secretary Ashish Kumar Bhutani said the programme would leverage the existing network of dairy and fishery cooperatives to act as "bank mitras" or banking agents by offering services such as micro-ATMs and lower-interest farm loans. "The pilot has been rolled out at the state level in Gujarat. We intend to nationally roll out shortly," Bhutani said while addressing a cooperative summit organised by PHDCCI here. The plan follows a pilot project launched in two districts of Gujarat where members of dairy and fishery cooperatives were able to access banking services closer home, including doorstep delivery of microloans and facilitating other transactions. Strong demand to boost revenue of dairy industry by 14-16% in FY24: CRISIL

Strong demand for value added products and stable consumption of liquid milk will lead to a 14-16 per cent revenue growth for the organised dairy industry in 2023-24, a report said on Thursday. With raw milk supply improving, there will be fewer price hikes and profitability will recover 20-50 basis points, Crisil Ratings said in the report. "We believe the strong revenue growth in VAP (Value Added Products) seen over the past few years will continue. This fiscal, the segment should grow 18-20 per cent and consequently, the share of VAP in overall revenue could rise to 40 per cent from 35 per cent four fiscals back," Crisil Ratings Senior Director Mohit Makhija said. He also said that given that demand from both retail and institutional segments remained strong, the share of VAP will continue to rise and on the other hand, liquid milk revenue will grow 8-10 per cent this fiscal backed by steady demand. Further, the report said that in the last fiscal, disruptions in raw milk supply

Dairy industry revenue likely to witness 12-14% growth in FY23: Report

The strong revival of the hotels, restaurants and catering (HoReCa) segment and the increase in retail prices are likely to help the dairy industry achieve 12-14 per cent revenue growth this fiscal, according to a report. Indian dairy companies are estimated to achieve revenue growth of 12-14 per cent in FY23 on a year-on-year basis, backed by a strong revival in demand, especially the HoReCa segment and an increase in retail prices, Icra said in a report on Thursday. Icra expects the industry to maintain a stable credit profile, supported by a favourable demand outlook and moderate debt levels. Milk production yields in the first half (H1) of FY23 were hampered by the prevalence of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), notably among cows in the northern states. Although a successful
