After two women were shot in Delhi's RK Puram, the health minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj, slammed the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi over the law and order situation in Delhi
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said the national capital would have been the safest place had the law and order situation been under the AAP dispensation instead of the Lieutenant Governor. His remarks came after two women were allegedly shot dead by unidentified assailants in R K Puram in southwest Delhi Sunday morning. "Our thoughts are with the families of the two women. May their souls rest in peace. The people of Delhi have started feeling quite insecure. Those who are responsible for handling the law and order situation in Delhi are hatching conspiracy to take control of Delhi government instead of fixing the situation," Kejriwal said in a tweet in Hindi. "Had the law and order situation been under the AAP dispensation instead of the LG, Delhi would have been the safest," he added. The AAP had on earlier occasions too attacked Lt Governor V K Saxena over the alleged "deteriorating" law and order situation in the city.

A section of bike taxi drivers has sought Delhi LG V K Saxena's intervention in helping them stave off a Delhi government ban which proscribed them from plying on city roads in absence of a policy. The Delhi government had earlier in the week banned app-based taxi services such as Rapido and Uber in view of absence of a policy for plying of bike taxis on city roads. In a memorandum they handed over to LG's office, the drivers said the Delhi government was adamant on banning their services. "We will face difficulties in meeting household expenses, getting our children educated and getting our parents treated," read the memorandum. The Supreme Court had on Monday stayed a Delhi High Court order that essentially allowed Rapido and Uber to operate in the national capital by asking the Delhi government not to take any coercive action against them till a new policy was formulated. A vacation bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose and Rajesh Bindal at Supreme Court granted liberty to the two .
The Delhi High Court has sought the stand of the city government on a petition against the restriction of a 5-year lock-in period on transfer of three-seater auto rickshaws (TSR) by the owners. Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri issued notice to the Delhi government on May 31 on the petition by Auto Driver Kalyan Union, which claimed to be working for the welfare of TSR vehicle owners and drivers. The Delhi government counsel said a policy decision will be taken to explore the feasibility of carving out exceptions, and sought time from the court to file a status report. Advocate Beenashaw N Soni, the counsel for the petitioner, submitted the lock-in period of five years before TSR autos could be transferred, is an unreasonable restriction, which is in existence only in the national capital. No such restriction has been imposed on any other public utility vehicle. The petitioner has said because of the lock-in period imposed by the Delhi government, the owners of TSR autos, who have purchas

Delhi Water Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj on Sunday said it is "strange" that Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena takes credit for the improvement in the Yamuna river's water quality while all accountability lies with the Kejriwal government. In a statement released by his office, Bhardwaj said no significant improvement in the Yamuna water quality could be achieved without enhancing the quality and capacity of sewage treatment plants. "It is quite strange that any improvement in the pollution of Yamuna is claimed by the LG while all the accountability and answerability lies with the Arvind Kejriwal government," Bhardwaj said. Bhardwaj said the reference parameters for sewage treatment plant functioning were recently changed nationwide, and states have started rehabilitating their STPs accordingly. The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has been at the forefront of these efforts. It has already awarded contracts to professional firms for the rehabilitation of 11 STPs, aiming to upgrade them to the lates

The Centre on Wednesday informed the Delhi High Court that it has given clearance to city Education Minister Atishi to travel to the United Kingdom for an official visit next week. The counsel for the Centre said the proposal has now been send to the economic affairs department for further approvals, which would also be processed and the petitioner can apply for requisite visa permits. While Atishi's lawyer said the clearance was given by the Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday morning, the counsel for the Centre said it was granted on Tuesday itself. It was given yesterday. The Delhi government will implement a helium leakage detection technology in the city to effectively address the problem of contaminated water, minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said on Tuesday. The technology involves injecting helium gas into a pipeline and then conducting drilling at multiple locations. If there is a leak in the pipeline, the gas will escape and rise to the surface, allowing technicians to precisely pinpoint the location of the leak. Water Minister Bharadwaj said this modern technology will eliminate the need for road excavation and ground digging to identify leaks in the underground pipeline network, bringing relief to the residents of the national capital. He visited Shahpur Jat on Tuesday to inspect the state-of-the-art equipment designed to detect leakage and contaminated water in the pipeline. Bharadwaj personally tested the helium leakage detection technology to evaluate its success in identifying pipeline leaks, according to a statement. Recent complaints regar
The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear the Delhi government's plea challenging the high court order staying its notice to bike-taxi aggregator Rapido and allowing it to ply till the final policy has been notified. A vacation bench of Justices Aniruddha Bose and Rajesh Bindal said it will hear the petition on June 7. Senior advocate Manish Vashisht, appearing for the Delhi government, said the high court's decision to stay its notice till the final policy is notified is like virtually allowing the writ petition by Rapido. The bench said it will list the matter for hearing on Wednesday. On May 26, the high court, while issuing notice to the Delhi government on Rapido's plea challenging a law that excludes two-wheelers from being registered as transport vehicles, directed no coercive action will be taken against the bike-taxi aggregator till the final policy has been notified. The high court, which has listed Rapido's plea on August 22 before the registrar for completion of plead

The Delhi government has moved the Supreme Court challenging an order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) by which a high-level committee headed by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena was set up for handling solid waste management in the national capital. The AAP-led Delhi government, which has been at loggerheads with the LG over several administrative issues, filed the appeal against the February 16 order of the NGT, saying its effect is to bypass the elected government completely" and hand over the power with regard to the management of solid waste to the LG and the central government which is in violation of the constitutional scheme. Amid a lingering conflict between the Centre and the AAP dispensation, the Delhi government had filed a separate plea a few days ago assailing another order of the NGT naming the LG as the chairperson of a High-Level Committee (HLC) on Yamuna pollution. The fresh plea, filed through lawyer Shadan Farasat on Tuesday, sought setting aside of the final .
