DMRC advises people to not fly kites near elevated metro lines for safety

Ahead of Independence Day, the DMRC on Sunday advised people not to fly kites in the vicinity of elevated metro lines passing through residential areas for their safety and to prevent disruption of metro services. "As kite flying gathers pace around August 15, there is a likelihood of kite strings getting entangled in the OHE (overhead equipment) wires or getting stuck in the pantograph (which draws power from OHE) of a moving train if kites are flown in the area of elevated metro lines," Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal said in an advisory. "Such incidents have the potential to not only disrupt the metro services by damaging/tripping the OHE or pantograph but may also prove fatal to those flying kites with metallic maanjha," he said. There will be some changes in the last and first train timings on Sunday and Monday respectively in view of the ongoing work on a 490-metre section of Janakpuri West to R K Ashram corridor of Phase-IV of Delhi Metro's Yellow Line, officials said on Saturday. Air India on Tuesday said it has partnered with Delhi Metro and Delhi airport to facilitate check-in for international air passengers at two metro stations in Delhi. The check-in and baggage drop facility at the Delhi airport allows passengers to check in their baggage at the metro station, giving the outstation travellers the option to explore the city baggage-free. During this period, their baggage gets securely loaded onto the aircraft through an advanced automated infrastructure created by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL). A pantograph of a Delhi Metro train caught fire at Rajiv Chowk station on Monday evening due to some external material getting caught between it and the overhead equipment for electrification, the DMRC said in a statement. Man behind graffiti targeting Delhi CM Kejriwal arrested from UP's Bareilly

The Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested a 33-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly for allegedly drawing anti-Arvind Kejriwal graffiti at stations of Delhi Metro and inside its coaches, an officer said. The person who wrote the messages and posted the photographs on his Instagram account has been identified as Ankit Goel, the officer said. On Monday, several pictures of the graffiti targeting the Delhi Chief Minister went viral on social media, eliciting a sharp condemnation from the Aam Aadmi Party. Soon after, a CCTV video of the act also surfaced online, showing a man writing on the wall of a metro station. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has decided to extend its last train timing at all lines in view of IPL matches in the city, an official statement said on Tuesday. Bank of Baroda wins co-branding rights for three Delhi Metro stations

State-owned Bank of Baroda (BoB) on Tuesday announced that it has acquired the co-branding rights for three stations of Delhi Metro. These stations are Inderlok, South Extension and Rajouri Garden. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) awarded the naming rights to the bank for a period of 10 years, beginning from 2024, BoB said in a statement. In addition to the exclusive co-branding rights, the bank will get a dedicated space for branding, display of products and installation of an ATM/Digital Banking Unit (DBU)/ kiosk to serve customers, it said. Meanwhile, the bank's executive director Ajay K Khurana inaugurated the new station branding at Inderlok Metro station. The Delhi Metro is India's largest and busiest metro rail system with daily ridership of more than 60 lakh, it claimed.
