Delhi govt appointed AAP workers as fellows with fat hefty salaries: Report

The Delhi government employed 437 private individuals, mostly AAP workers, as fellows and consultants with hefty salaries, LG House sources said on Sunday, even as the ruling party denied the "arbitrary" allegations. In the latest flashpoint, Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena recently approved the termination of services of 437 specialists appointed by the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP dispensation to various departments and agencies of the city government. The LG cited irregularities in their engagements for the move. Kejriwal had said the termination of the specialists would strangulate the Delhi government and its services, and hoped that the Supreme Court would quash it "The government brazenly flouted the constitutional provision of reservation for SC/ST/OBC in employing these private individuals. It also rigged the entire selection process, chose favoured individuals with dubious qualifications, and used these so called fellows' and consultants' as political/party workers for political

Work underway to drain floodwater from Rajghat, says Delhi LG Saxena

Efforts are underway to drain the floodwater from Mahatma Gandhi's memorial Rajghat here, Delhi LG VK Saxena said on Sunday. The LG inspected the work underway in the evening. The entire Rajghat area was inundated due to the backflow of a drain with floodwaters from the Yamuna rushing in and entering even the memorial complex. "Efforts have begun to slowly yield results. A bold decision of making holes in the walls around Rajghat & the Samadhi complex to get water out as per gradient, along with pumping it out, led to it gushing out," Saxena tweeted, sharing photos of the ongoing work. The flame at the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi remained undiminished, he said. In a series of tweets, the LG also updated about various works to restore flood-affected roads in the city. He inspected the ongoing work to restore the Ring Road for traffic. "The road adjacent to Salimgarh Fort has been opened on one side and the other side is being restored. 25 Multifunctional vehicles from MCD will star

Kejriwal-led flood control committee failed to meet in last 2 yrs: Report

As the national capital faces the floods caused by the overflowing Yamuna, Raj Niwas sources on Sunday alleged that the Apex Committee for flood control and preparedness headed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal did not meet in the last two years. However, the AAP government denied the charge, saying the meeting to discuss flood preparedness chaired by Delhi ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj took place on May 9. It also said that a flood control order was issued as per the due process. The Raj Niwas sources claimed that the flood order issued by the Delhi government was "half-baked". "As chairman of the Apex Committee to Review, Recommend, Supervise and Coordinate Flood Control Measures in NCT of Delhi, CM Kejriwal chose not to let the Committee's mandatory meeting scheduled in June-end this year, despite the revenue department moving a file to this effect on June 19. Even last year, Kejriwal did not let this meeting happen," a Raj Niwas source said. This high-power ...

Delhi govt to set up camps for Aadhaar, other docs washed away in floods

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced the government will set up special camps for those whose Aadhaar cards and other documents were washed away in the floods. He made the announcement during a visit to a relief camp in north Delhi's Mori Gate. "The government will set up special camps for those whose Aadhaar cards and other key documents were washed away in the flood. We will again arrange for school dresses and books for students," Kejriwal told reporters. He said the government is pumping water out from waterlogged roads and life is slowly returning to normal. Yamuna water levels had come down to 205.85 metres by 1 pm. Congress will not support Centre's Delhi ordinance in Parliament

The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday said the Congress' "unequivocal opposition" to the Centre's ordinance on the control of administrative services in Delhi was "a positive development". The AAP is, however, yet to make it clear if it will join a meeting of several opposition parties in Bengaluru beginning Monday. The party had earlier said it would join the meeting only if the Congress extended its support to the AAP in opposing the Delhi ordinance in Parliament. Earlier in the day, Congress general secretary K C Venugopal said the party's stand is clear as it will oppose any such move by the Centre to intervene in states ruled by opposition parties through the governors and has decided to oppose the Delhi ordinance in Parliament whenever a bill comes up. "We took the decision yesterday. We are not going to support any attempt to sabotage the federal system of the country and to intervene in the state matters through governors. We are not going to support the Delhi ordinance," he told

Shut due to flooding, Chandrawal water treatment plant back at work

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said the Chandrawal Water treatment plant one of the three shut since flooding has started. The Okhla plant had been started on Friday after a raging Yamuna showed signs of calming down. "Chandrawal water treatment plant has also started," Kejriwal tweeted on Sunday. According to officials, the Yamuna's water level declined to 205.98 metres by 9 am on Sunday from its peak of 208.66 metres at 8 pm on Thursday. The decline in the water level is in large part attributable to the decreasing flow from the Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana's Yamunanagar over the last two days. The water level of the Yamuna, however, is still above the danger mark of 205.33 metres. The normal water supply in the city, which was affected due to flooding in water treatment plants, is likely to be normalised on Sunday. The chief minister had earlier said that water treatment plants at Wazirabad and Chandrawal will be started by Sunday.
