Rescuers pull baby alive from Russian block after gas blast
Russian rescuers on Tuesday pulled a baby boy alive from the ruins of an apartment block that collapsed in a gas explosion more than a day earlier, killing at least seven people and leaving dozens missing. "The rescuers heard crying. The baby was saved by being in a cradle and warmly wrapped up," Chelyabinsk regional governor Boris Dubrovsky wrote on his Telegram channel. The emergencies ministry named the child as a 10-month-old boy after initial reports that the baby was a girl. Dubrovsky posted video of rescuers pulling the child from a chink between concrete panels and running with him wrapped in a blanket to an ambulance. At least ten people were injured after a jeep rolled down a hill on Chhatri-Gatu road in Mandi district on Tuesday.No deaths have been reported so far. Indonesia landslide leaves 15 dead; 20 still missing
Rescuers recovered six more bodies buried under tons of mud from a landslide that crashed onto a hilly village on Indonesia's main island of Java, bringing the death toll to 15, officials said Tuesday. The landslide that plunged down surrounding hills just before sunset Monday buried 30 houses in Sirnaresmi village in West Java's Sukabumi district. High-pressure pumps deployed to drain out water from mine to rescue miners

Four persons were killed and six others injured in a four-vehicle collision in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district, police said Tuesday. The accident occurred on Monday night. Technical snag in pumps hinder rescue operations in Meghalaya mine
The multi-agency operation to rescue the miners trapped in a flooded quarry in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district was hindered after the high-powered pumps encountered technical snags on Tuesday, officials said. Fifteen miners are trapped inside a 370-foot-deep illegal coal mine in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district since December 13 after water from a nearby river gushed in, puncturing the mine wall. On the 20th day of the operation, Indian Navy personnel resumed with their diving using unmanned remotely operated vehicles with assistance of the NRDF in the main shaft, operation spokesperson R Susngi told PTI. "There were some technical problems with the machines and the rescue operation was affected," he said. Rescuers search for survivors in deadly Indonesian landslide
Rescuers are searching for survivors after a landslide triggered by heavy rain left at least two people dead and dozens missing in western Indonesia, an official said Tuesday. The landslide occurred shortly before sunset on Monday in West Java province. Car carrier on fire in Pacific, some crew abandon ship
A Panamanian car carrier heading from Japan to Hawaii caught fire in the Pacific Ocean, with some crew members abandoning the ship and the US Coast Guard and other vessels heading to its rescue Monday. The Coast Guard said in a statement that crew members launched a life raft and four of the 21 mariners aboard left the Sincerity Ace wearing life jackets. The agency could not confirm if they reached the life raft. The remaining 17 crew members stayed on board to fight the fire. The Coast Guard said other commercial vessels were helping with the rescue 1,800 nautical miles (3,333 kilometres) northwest of Hawaii. One person was killed and nine injured in a pile-up of over half-a-dozen vehicles in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district on Monday, police said. The accident took place near milestone 92 under Surir police station area, they said. The deceased was identified as Rajesh (35), a resident of Agra, they added. "The accident took place when a canter loaded with vegetables overturned after it hit the road divider due to low visibility amid dense fog," Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagveer Singh Chauhan said. Four people lost their lives while five others were injured in a road accident at Guntur Laalur National Highway after a car hit a lorry on Monday.Police said that the victims were heading to Vijayawada for New Year celebrations. A press release from Rajini Makkal Mandram said it had over the last two months been engaged in rehabilitation work in cyclone affected districts, including disbursal of Rs 50 lakh worth of relief materials.
