Fire breaks out in textile shop

A major fire broke out in a textile shop here, police said today. No one was injured as the fire started at around 10.45 pm yesterday after the shop was closed, they said. Noticing the smoke, watchmen and members of the public alerted the fire service and police. The entire four-storeyed building was engulfed in flames, which were put out by around 4 am today,police said. The cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained. A case was registered based on a complaint from a representative of the shop, police said. The value of the property damaged would be known only after an investigation.

Three dead in rain-related incidents in Jammu

Three persons, including a woman, were killed and nearly a dozen houses damaged in rain-related incidents in different districts of the Jammu region, officials said today. Harbans Lal (45) was washed away by flash floods in a stream near his house at Natulphal village of Khour in the Akhnoor sector here this afternoon, they said. The officials said Lal was crossing the stream when a sudden surge in the water level due to incessant rains caught him. The body of the deceased was recovered and handed over to his family, they said. A woman, identified as Jameela, was killed when a tree got uprooted due to heavy rains and fell on her temporary shelter at Kalamsatherdhar village of Kishtwar district, the officials said. Jameela's daughter was also injured in the incident and was shifted to a hospital, they said. 3 died in J-K, flood alert issued

In the wake of incessant rain across Kashmir Valley, the authorities have issued a flood alert in low lying areas of the state.While addressing the media, advisor to Jammu and Kashmir Governor BB Vyas said that at least three deaths have been reported so far in Jammu region."Three deaths have been reported till now from Jammu region. Kashmir can expect the same weather till this evening and some relief after that. In Srinagar, we have established 44 shelter sheds. Teenager feared drowned in flood channel while trying to rescue dog

A teenager is feared drowned in a flood channel while trying to dog here today, the police said. Asif Ahmad Malik (18), was trying to rescue the dog from the flood channel near Aalochibagh, when the incident happened, a police official said, an operation to find him is on. The authorities have issued a flood alert for low-lying areas of the central Kashmir, including the summer capital here, and asked the people to be alert and prepared for evacuation. Schools across the Valley were closed for today in view of the inclement weather.

Arunachal landslide: Death toll rises to five

One ITBP personnel, among the eight injured in yesterday's landslide in Lower Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, succumbed to his injuries today, raising the death toll to five, a police officer said. Out of the eight injured, the condition of two personnel were critical, the officer said. The two critically injured Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel were initially taken to the Army hospital at Likabali, and later, referred to a hospital in Assam's Dibrugarh yesterday, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Lower Siang Singjatla Singpho said, adding that one of them died there this morning. The other six personnel with minor injuries were treated at the local community health centre, Singpho said. Amarnath yatra resumes from on-foot routes

Amarnath Yatra has resumed from both the on-foot routes of Baltal and Pahalgam, after the weather improved.The yatra was stalled on the routes earlier today, due to incessant rainfall and bad weather.Air sorties by the administration have also resumed from Baltal.The Baltal route, coming from Srinagar, is of 14 kilometres, and the route from Pahalgam, coming from Jammu, is of about 32 kilometres.Meanwhile, the fourth batch of the Amarnath pilgrims have reached the Jammu base camp. Delhi Airport sets up complaint cell to control aircraft noise

The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has set up a noise complaint cell for hospitals and residences around the airport to control aircraft noise.According to DIAL, the residents and hospitals can use the cell to register complaints.DIAL issued a public notice that read, "Delhi International Airport Limited has established a noise complaint cell. Intermittent rains continued in Kashmir today with authorities sounding a flood alert in central Kashmir, even as water levels started receding in the southern parts of the valley. The authorities had yesterday issued a flood alert in south Kashmir. Father of maintenance engineer Surabhi Gupta, who lost her life in Mumbai plane crash, has said his daughter had told him that she was going to fly a sick aircraft.Calling it a clear case of carelessness, Gupta's father said the incident could have been averted."A day before she boarded the aircraft she told me that she's about to fly a sick aircraft. Two people were killed and 11 seriously injured when a speeding truck collided with a car and a tractor on Karnal-Meerut highway in Shamli district, police said today. Husband of the co-pilot of the chartered plane, which crashed in suburban Ghatkopar yesterday, today sought to know who cleared the flight despite the adverse weather conditions and if the aircraft was fit for flying.
