Guinea's transport ministry says four people are dead after a small plane crashed after takeoff from the capital, Conakry. Transport Minister Aboubacar Sylla says among the dead in yesterday's crash are pilots from Germany and Cape Verde and technicians from Poland and Guinea. He says the bodies are being transferred to a morgue in the capital. He said the crash of the private Eagle Air SA plane occurred in Kindia prefecture near Sougueta village about 167 kilometers (103 miles) northwest of Conakry. Sougueta community secretary Amadou Kaba says the plane crashed into a hill hidden by clouds while flying at low altitude. He says the plane was transporting fuel to a mining company in Lero. The transport minister says an investigation is underway.
Ahead of the Amarnath pilgrimage, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has conducted mock exercises to asses the preparedness and response mechanism of all the stake-holders to deal with natural as well as man-made disasters, the Home Ministry said today. The mock exercises were conducted from June 22 and concluded today at critical areas along the Baltal and Pahalgam-Chandanwari routes. The move has been taken at enhancing the preparedness of the officials of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), district administration and other key government agencies to deal with any disaster during the pilgrimage. A pair of airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition today killed at least eight civilians all members of a single family in Yemen's northwestern Amran province near the capital, Sanaa, security officials said. Two more people died due to floods in Cachar district of Barak Valley in Assam on Monday, taking the death toll to 23, even as the overall flood situation improved in the state.
The overall flood situation in Assam showed a slight improvement today with all the major rivers of the state flowing below the danger level, even as two more persons lost their lives, taking the death toll in flood related incidents to 26. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), five districts were still in the grip of flood waters. Two persons were reported drowned in Cachar district, it said. A total of 96,993 people in five districts were reeling under the impact of the flood, as against the 1.94 lakh people in six districts yesterday. The worst-hit district is Karimganj, where 59,023 people have been affected, while the other districts hit by the current wave of floods are Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Cachar and Hailakandi. Five people including four women were killed and four others injured in a collision involving a speeding car and an auto-rickshaw at Manchal area on the city outskirts today, police said. A group of 10 women vegetable vendors from Chennareddygudem village were on their way to the city in the auto-rickshaw when the car rammed into it at around 6.10 AM. While four women died on the spot, the auto-driver died undergoing treatment at a hospital, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ibrahimpatnam Division) S Malla Reddy said. A total of four occupants travelling in the car and the three-wheeler were injured in the incident and were undergoing treatment at a hospital, the official said. Five persons were killed in lightning strikes and one drowned after heavy monsoon rains and thunderstorms lashed West Bengal today, a state disaster management official said. A seven-year-old boy was killed in Purulia district's Bhomragora village and two others were killed in Rajendrapur of Basirhat II block and Keutepara in North 24 Parganas district due to lightning strikes, he said. A woman from Basanti block of Charpara village, and a man from Namkhana block of Uttar Chandanpiri village of South 24 Parganas district were also killed in lightning strikes this morning, the official said. A Dubai-bound IndiGo flight from the national capital was diverted to Muscat today following a medical emergency, according to the airline. As many as 176 passengers were onboard. An IndiGo spokesperson said flight 6E 023 operating Delhi-Dubai route was diverted to Muscat on grounds of medical emergency this morning. "As a precautionary measure, the flight crew informed ATC (Air Traffic Controller) and requested for an ambulance and a local doctor. The passenger was examined and was declared fit to fly. The aircraft departed normally to Dubai," the spokesperson said in a statement.

Multiple attempts to locate 12 boys and their soccer coach missing in a flooded cave complex in northern Thailand for nearly two days have failed, but officials said today they believe they're still alive. The boys, aged 11-15, are believed to have entered the Tham Luang Nang Non cave in Chiang Rai province with their coach late Saturday afternoon. A mother reported that her son never returned from soccer practice that day, setting off the search. "We are still searching right now," Chote Narin, an officer at Mae Sai district police station, said today afternoon. "We've found traces but no people yet." He said footprints and handprints were found inside the cave complex and officials believe the boys are still alive. He said the fact that they're athletes should help them endure the situation. Navy SEAL divers were trying to reach a large chamber deep inside the cave complex where officials thought the students might be. The chamber is about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) from the entrance .
Two fisherwomen were killed and two others injured when lightning struck them near Hukitola Island in Kendrapara district today, police said. The victims were on a fishing voyage on a boat when lightning struck near the island located under the jurisdiction of Mahakalpada police station, they said. The deceased have been identified as Dipali Mandal (42) and Pannti Mandal (55) of Jamboo village, while two fishermen accompanying them received burn wounds and were taken to hospital for treatment, the police said, adding that a case of unnatural death has been registered in this connection. As lightning is a state-specific disaster, next of kin of the deceased persons would be disbursed Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia from special relief fund, said officials.

Indonesia has identified the suspected location of an overcrowded ferry that sank last week in a deep volcanic crater lake but will need international help to recover the wreck, the chief of the national search and rescue agency said today. The ferry had some 200 people on board, about five times over capacity, but only 18 people including the boat's captain survived the sinking in rough weather June 17 on Lake Toba. The rescue agency said in a statement yesterday an object that was possibly the ferry was at a depth of 490 metres (1,607 feet). Few bodies have been recovered and officials have said many of the dead are likely trapped inside the vessel.
