A massive blaze that erupted in a rubber factory in south Delhi on Tuesday was brought under control on Wednesday after an Indian Air Force Mi17V5 helicopter was used to spray water on it. However, the Delhi Fire Service said that the fire was doused before that and the helicopter was not needed.
Six people were injured after a sand-laden dumper hit their cab on National Highway 24 today, the police said. The cab was going towards Kapashera when a traffic police personnel signalled the driver to stop the vehicle, they said. While the driver was stopping the car, the dumper hit the cab from behind and overturned. The sand loaded in the dumper fell on the cab, the police said, adding rescue operation lasted for over an hour. This caused severe jam on the Delhi-Gurgaon route. The injured have been identified as cab driver Mohd Umar (25), Sanjay Kumar (38), Dukhi Mehto (77), his wife Parmeshwari Devi (75), Akhilesh (26) and Sunita (46), the police said, adding they are undergoing treatment at hospital and their condition is stable.

A private tipper carrying grit fell into a nullah near Kadsai village in Hamirpur district today, killing two people and injuring seven, police said. The driver of the vehicle also died in the accident. Local people who came to know about the incident helped the police in extricating the bodies which were trapped under the tipper. Air India on Wednesday confirmed the death of its Mumbai-based pilot in a hotel in Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh.Air India first officer Capt Rithwik Tiwari was found dead in a small toilet room located in a health club of the hotel on Wednesday morning.A spokesperson of the airline also informed the Indian embassy in Riyadh and family of the pilot about the same."We got the news of our pilot died in Riyadh we informed his family as well as our embassy in Riyadh," Air India spokesperson said.

Jet Airways has grounded four of its crew members, including a senior commander, for allegedly clicking selfies during a training flight on April 19 and violating aviation safety norms, airline sources said today. However, an airline spokesperson said that an internal investigation was being conducted into the issue and the crew was aiding in the probe. "Acting in the interest of guest safety, Jet Airways has placed four crew members off their scheduled duties. The crew members are aiding an internal investigation being conducted by the airline in connection with certain events aboard training flight of April 19," he said. "At Jet Airways, safety is of paramount interest," the spokesperson said. The airline sources said the incident took place during a training flight from Leh to Delhi. The crew -- a senior commander and a three trainee pilots -- were allegedly clicking selfies during the course of the flight, they said.
Parcel van of a train caught fire near Chilikidhara railway station in Odisha's Keonjhar district today, railway officials said. No one was hurt in the incident and all passengers of Kendujhargarh-Bhubaneswar Passenger train are safe as only the parcel van, which was next to the engine of the train was affected due to the fire, they said. After getting information about smoke billowing out of the parcel van, immediate steps were taken to detach the engine and coaches of the train, an official of East Coast Railway (ECoR) said. The fire brigade was called to extinguish the fire and the overhead electricity was suspended in the route while dousing the flame in the parcel van. The parcel van was loaded with materials by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Keonjhar railway station, he said. Two workers from Odisha died of asphyxiation after inhaling some 'poisonous' gas on entering an inspection chamber of a newly laid water supply line here today, officials said. The deceased -- Vijay (25) and Santosh (28) -- were employed in a private firm. They fell unconscious as soon as they stepped into the recently built chamber near the Uppal cricket stadium to remove the centering material used in the construction work. Co-workers brought the two out, but they were dead by then, Assistant Commissioner of Police G Sundeep told PTI. The Indian Air Force (IAF), through its 'Bambi Bucket' operation helped in containing a major fire which broke out in a rubber godown in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar area, an official statement said today. Cooling operations are underway at the factory. A dense plume of smoke billowed from a truck and a godown in Khirki Extension area last night, causing panic among locals. The city police has arrested Sanjay Saini, owner of the godown, in the incident. "Around midnight, a request was received at HQ Western Air Command for containing a fire at Malviya Nagar. A MLH class helicopter airborne from Sarsawa did a recce and landed at Palam. Thereafter, the helicopter got airborne with bambi bucket to contain the fire," the statement by the IAF said. An airplane flying from China to Vietnam turned back to make an emergency landing after cracks appeared in a window, just two weeks after another airliner's cockpit window broke mid-flight in the country, state media said today. The Beijing Capital Airlines flight bound for Nha Trang in southern Vietnam with 211 people aboard returned to the eastern city of Hangzhou around an hour after take-off yesterday, the official Xinhua news agency said. "After an hour of flight, the plane suddenly jolted violently," a passenger surnamed Zhang told state broadcaster CCTV. "An in-flight announcement said the plane was encountering turbulence. I have been on a lot of flights and I had never witnessed such strong turbulence. Many of the children in the cabin were scared and crying."
