Three people have been killed and eight others injured in a house fire in New York City. The blaze broke out late Saturday night at a two-story home in Queens. An 82-year-old woman, an 87-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman all were killed in the fire. Eight other people were taken to area hospitals. Three, including an 8-year-old girl, are listed in critical condition. The other five are hospitalized in stable condition with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. On Sunday morning, three people including two children were hospitalized in critical condition after a blaze broke out in a Harlem apartment building, the Fire Department said. The causes of the fires remain under investigation.
A huge fire at a cotton factory in Mathura district today gutted properties worth crores and fire-fighters were still struggling to control the blaze after nine hours. No injuries have been reported. Seven fire-tenders were rushed to the factory in Kosi Kalan area this afternoon, Chief Fire Officer Sanjai Sharma said. Sharma said fire-fighters were still trying to douse the fire. He said the cause of the fire appears to be a short-circuit in the electrical wiring system of the cotton factory. According to J V Singh, vice president of the company that owns the unit, the fire broke out in the storage yard where raw cotton was stored. Singh said the actual loss would be ascertained later but it could be in crores.
A fire broke out on Sunday at the building site of the new Egyptian museum - the future site of some of the country's most unique and precious artifacts - but caused no significant damage or injuries, Egypt's Antiquities Ministry said. Firefighters extinguished the fire, which consumed wooden scaffolding at the construction site of the new Grand Egyptian Museum, located near the famed pyramids of Giza just outside Cairo, the ministry said in a statement. It said there were no causalities or damage to artifacts in the museum. Footage circulating on social media showed flames and plumes of thick black smoke rising over the entrance of the museum. A pilot and two co-pilots, all three of them Libyan, were killed Sunday when their cargo plane crashed in southern Libya, a military source said. The plane crashed minutes after taking off from the Al-Sharara oil field, the source said on condition of anonymity. "It had arrived from Tripoli to bring supplies to the (oil) field staff and left empty," the source told AFP. "The captain and his two co-pilots died in the crash." One member of the crew survived the wreck but was "seriously injured", the source said. The cause of the crash at Al-Sharara, one of Libya's biggest oil fields in the south of the country, was unknown.

Three pilgrims heading to the nearby famous Lord Venkateswara temple were among four persons killed when their van and another vehicle collided near here today, police said. The victims, hailing from Salem district of Tamil Nadu, were on their way to the hill shrine in Tirumala when their van and a sea-food laden van collided at Sankampalle, 40 km from here, in the wee hours, they said. Driver of the pilgrim's van was the other deceased. Three other pilgrims, injured in the mishap, were initially admitted to a government hospital in Chittoor, 70 km from here, before being shifted to CMC Hospital in Vellore in neighbouring Tamil Nadu. At least 16 people, including eight members of a family, were today killed in two separate road accidents in Jabalpur and Mandsaur districts of Madhya Pradesh, police said. In Jabalpur, nine people waiting for a bus were crushed to death when a cement bags-laden truck overturned and fell on them near Mankhedi village this afternoon, a police official said, adding that eight of them belonged to the same family. In Mandsaur, seven people were killed and 26 others injured when a passenger bus hit two motorcycles and fell in a dry culvert near Dhamania village, about 27 km from Mandsaur district headquarters, in the morning hours, officials said. Water samples collected from over 30 districts of Maharashtra were found to have contaminants, a report by the state's Public Health Laboratory has stated. The Maharashtra Public Health Laboratory has found that water taken from various sources like bore wells, wells, public tanks and water tankers in rural and urban areas of several districts had traces of contamination. It informed that the samples, taken from 34 out of the state's 36 districts, excluding the two districts that make up Mumbai, were tested in several of its labs in March this year. The report said that the problem was most severe in Washim district as 27 per cent of the samples tested turned out to be contaminated. Hingoli, at 24 per cent, and Chandrapur, with 21 per cent contaminated water samples, stood second and third respectively, the report stated. It said that 20 per cent of water samples from districts like Aurangabad, Nanded and Raigad had contaminants while it was 15 per cent in Akola, Buldana,

The Pakistan Navy today said it had delivered "medical and humanitarian assistance" to 12 Indian fishermen on a boat which was lost at sea after developing engine trouble. The Pakistan Navy in a press release claimed that about eight days back its ship PNS Alamgir delivered assistance to the Indian fishermen travelling on the 'ST Mars' boat. The fishermen were close to running out of food and water after their boat developed engine problems eight days back. Despite repeated appeals, no Indian boat had come to their rescue, the release said. It said there were 12 Indian fishermen on the ST Mars and medical and other assistance was provided to them on humanitarian grounds. The Pakistan Navy said it also delivered food and medical supplies and helped the fishermen repair the boat.
The government has said some Schedule III coal blocks have started production ahead of the time, and exuded confidence that the remaining mines will start operation on schedule. "The schedule III mines were to start production after June 2018. Few of them have also started production ahead of schedule but the remaining are on schedule...," Coal Secretary Susheel Kumar said. Seven people -- five of them firefighters -- died in a fire that broke out late Saturday in an electronics factory in northern Taiwan, the local fire department said. The inferno raged through the eight-floor building of a circuit board maker, located in an industrial district in Taoyuan City. Seven firefighters were trapped by large fallen objects as they tried to search for people inside the factory. They were rescued early Sunday but only two survived. Seven persons were killed today and 26 others injured when a passenger bus hit two motorcycles and fell in a dry culvert near Dhamania village in Mandsaur district, about 75 kms away from here. District Collector OP Shrivastava said the bus was headed towards Bhanpura when the mishap occurred this morning. He said the driver of the bus could have lost the control over the vehicle in a bid to save two motorcycles coming from the opposite direction. However, the bus hit the motorcycles before landing in the dry culvert, he said. Shrivastava said the injured persons were admitted in two hospitals at Shamgarh and Mandsaur.
