Nepal's airport shut after Malaysian plane skids off runway
Nepal's only international airport on Friday remained shut after a Kuala Lumpur-bound Malaysian airline Malindo Air flight skidded off the runway.Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu confirmed that the aircraft was towed away from the grassland to the runway and now is in the parking area, reported the Kathmandu Post.The jet skidded to a halt on grassland and came to a stop in mud about 100 feet (30 metres) from the runway.The Malindo Air flight's runway excursion had made the airport halt all the international flights.According to the report, the domestic flights remained unaffected. The cause for the accident is unknown.An investigation is underway, according to the reports.Malindo Air, in a statement confirmed that its aircraft that was bound for Kuala Lumpur had overrun the runway at Tribuvan International Airport, the Star reported."The airline deeply regrets any inconvenience caused to the passengers who are affected by the incident," the statement read.

"The flight captain aborted take off at the final moment after he saw an error at the monitor inside the cockpit," TIA general manager Raj Kumar Chettri said quoting the captain. Dozens suffer minor injuries in Salzburg train accident
Police say dozens of people suffered minor injuries in a train accident in the Austrian city of Salzburg. Austria's APA news agency reported today that the accident occurred when additional cars were being attached to a stationary train and were apparently driven in at too high a speed. Rail operator spokesman Robert Mosser tells APA the accident occurred at 4:46 AM. Police spokesman Michael Rausch says some 35 to 40 people reported injuries; attending physicians say none is considered serious. Mosser and Rausch say the cause of the accident is under investigation.
Fresh snowfall in Gulmarg, higher reaches of Kashmir
Gulmarg and other areas in the higher reaches of Kashmir received fresh snowfall today, while the plains in the valley, including the summer capital Srinagar, were lashed by rains. Fresh snowfall has been recorded in Gulmarg the famous ski-resort in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, an official of the Meteorological Department here said. He said there are reports of snowfall in other areas in the higher reaches of the valley, including in Zojila Pass, near Amarnath Cave and Drass. The plain areas in the valley were lashed by rains which have brought down the maximum temperature below the normal for this part of the season, the official said. He said Srinagar recorded a maximum of 18.5 degrees Celsius yesterday, against the normal of 21.1 degrees Celsius. Govt will provide financial assistance to fire affected families: CM Thakur
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said the government would provide financial assistance for rehabilitation of fire affected families. He visited Kashaini village in Rohru Sub Division of Shimla district today to meet the affected families whose houses were destroyed in a fire which broke out on Tuesday night. Thakur said Rs 2.50 lakh would be provided to each family for re-construction of houses and adequate funds would be made available for construction of road to Kashaini village. Five killed in bus-van collision
Five people were killed and six others injured today in a collision between a van and a bus in Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh, police said. The incident occurred near Parsapani village in the district, they said. According to police, all the victims were part of a marriage party who were travelling in the van. The injured are being treated at a hospital in Ambikapur, police said.
TN deputy CM meets Union Law Minister over SC/ST Act

FY19 award target puts Bharatmala on challenging terrain: ICRA
A lower award target of 20,000km for highway projects this fiscal would make achievement of the Bharatmala programme's goals more challenging, rating agency ICRA said today. The Ministry of Road Transportation & Highways (MORTH) has fixed a lower award target of around 20,000 km of National Highways for FY2019 from 25,000 km in FY2018. The road and highways ministry has lowering the award target of road projects to 20,000km "In order to catch up with the ambitious target for new highway development programme, which is 83,677 km by FY2022, the award rate has to be more than double from what it was in FY2018; the target for FY2019 has instead been lowered to 20,000 km from 25,000 km last year, which makes the achievement of Bharatmala targets even more challenging," ICRA said. Fire in basement of Thane school; no one injured
Around 2,000 students were evacuated safely after a fire broke out in the basement of a school in Brahmand area here this morning. No one was injured in the incident, said chief fire officer of the Thane Municipal Corporation, Shashikant Kale. However, a notice has been issued to the school, Universal High School, seeking to know if it had the permission to use the basement and whether it had complied with fire safely rules, he said. The basement, where computer and some other classes were conducted, was completely gutted in the fire, he said. The fire broke out around 9 AM, and prima facie an electric spark seemed to have started it, he said. Firemen and personnel of the Regional Disaster Management Cell ensured that fire was doused within an hour, and in the meanwhile around 2,000 students were safely taken out, he said.

Six people, including three women, were killed and two others injured when their car fell into a deep gorge near Nerwa in Chopal area, an official said today.
