Police say dozens of people suffered minor injuries in a train accident in the Austrian city of Salzburg. Austria's APA news agency reported today that the accident occurred when additional cars were being attached to a stationary train and were apparently driven in at too high a speed. Rail operator spokesman Robert Mosser tells APA the accident occurred at 4:46 AM. Police spokesman Michael Rausch says some 35 to 40 people reported injuries; attending physicians say none is considered serious. Mosser and Rausch say the cause of the accident is under investigation.
Gulmarg and other areas in the higher reaches of Kashmir received fresh snowfall today, while the plains in the valley, including the summer capital Srinagar, were lashed by rains. Five people were killed and six others injured today in a collision between a van and a bus in Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh, police said. The incident occurred near Parsapani village in the district, they said. According to police, all the victims were part of a marriage party who were travelling in the van. A lower award target of 20,000km for highway projects this fiscal would make achievement of the Bharatmala programme's goals more challenging, rating agency ICRA said today. The Ministry of Road Transportation & Highways (MORTH) has fixed a lower award target of around 20,000 km of National Highways for FY2019 from 25,000 km in FY2018. The road and highways ministry has lowering the award target of road projects to 20,000km "In order to catch up with the ambitious target for new highway development programme, which is 83,677 km by FY2022, the award rate has to be more than double from what it was in FY2018; the target for FY2019 has instead been lowered to 20,000 km from 25,000 km last year, which makes the achievement of Bharatmala targets even more challenging," ICRA said. Around 2,000 students were evacuated safely after a fire broke out in the basement of a school in Brahmand area here this morning. No one was injured in the incident, said chief fire officer of the Thane Municipal Corporation, Shashikant Kale. However, a notice has been issued to the school, Universal High School, seeking to know if it had the permission to use the basement and whether it had complied with fire safely rules, he said. The basement, where computer and some other classes were conducted, was completely gutted in the fire, he said. The fire broke out around 9 AM, and prima facie an electric spark seemed to have started it, he said. Six people, including three women, were killed and two others injured when their car fell into a deep gorge near Nerwa in Chopal area, an official said today. The car was on its way to Nerwa from Pauria when the accident took place. Five people died on the spot while one person succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital, the official said.
