A massive fire broke out at Babla Compound at Thane's Bhiwandi , locals said on Saturday.As per the locals, the fire broke out due to a short circuit on Friday night.Soon after the incident, the firefighters reached the spot to douse the flames.Five people were sleeping on the premises of the company when the incident took place. They were later rescued by the firefighters."We immediately rushed to the spot when we got a call. It took an hour for us to get control on the flames, now the cooling process is going on," said firefighter Jagdish Sabre.

A man was killed and four others injured after their SUV overturned at the Shahdara flyover today, police said. They were residents of Ghaziabad and were returning home after visiting the Red Fort. The injured were admitted to the GTB hospital, they said. The incident took place at the foot of the flyover when the driver lost control of the car and hit the central verge, police said. The deceased was identified as 23-year-old Anil Kumar. Taslim, who was driving the vehicle, Dharmendra Singh, Mirza Gulzar and Dharamender were injured, they said. It is suspected that the car developed some technical problems and the driver lost control of the vehicle. The police are yet to take a statement.
The fire onboard a diesel- laden tanker, which started two days ago off the Gujarat coast, has been contained successfully and no oil spillage in the sea has been reported. The merchant vessel, MT Genessa, was anchored 15 nautical miles off Deendayal Port at Kandla, around 300km from here. The blaze has been contained successfully by the joint efforts of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and other stakeholders without any spillage, said a release by the Defence PRO for Gujarat this evening. "The fire on MT Genessa successfully doused. No spillage from the vessel. No imminent threat at present. A major disaster in the Gulf of Kutch averted due to prompt and well-coordinated operation," it said. The fire onboard the oil tanker was reported on January 17 evening. Since then, various agencies, led by the ICG, initiated efforts to douse the flames as well as to stop any possible oil spillage, the release said. All the 26 crew members were evacuated. At least two persons from Bihar were killed and 10 others injured when a bus carrying pilgrims collided with a truck on NH-23 in Ramgarh police station area, police said. China has planned to deploy robots to probe the wreckage of the Iranian oil tanker which exploded off its coast five days ago, spilling huge amount of condensate oil, according to a media report today. Officials spotted four oil slicks and planned to send robots to the wreckage to assess the environmental damage, the state-run Global Times said. China's transport ministry said Wednesday that the vessel, which exploded, lay at a depth of around 115 metres and that robots would be deployed to explore the shipwreck. The ship Sanchi, which was carrying 136,000 tonnes of light crude oil from Iran, sank in a ball of flames in the East China Sea on Sunday, a week after colliding with Hong Kong-registered bulk freighter the CF Crystal. A fire that broke out in Bengaluru's infamous Bellandur Lake several hours ago on Friday has not subsided.According to media reports, residents living on the Yemlur side of Bellandur spotted smoke in the lake known to be full of sewage, chemical effluents and construction debris around noon on Friday. Shortly thereafter, flames started rising.The Bellandur Lake according to the Karnataka Lake Development Authority is the largest of the 262 lakes and tanks in Bengaluru and accumulates about forty percent of the city's sewage.Fire department officials are reportedly making concerted efforts to bring the fire under control under the supervision of KLCDA officials.The cause of the fire is being attributed to locals burning the grassy land near the lake to get a fresh crop to feed their cattle.Some areas located away from the waterbody are still burning.

Fire broke out at a 26-storey building in Naupada area here today afternoon. Ten fire engines were pressed into service to douse the flames, fire brigade sources said. There were no casualties. Damage to the building was yet to be assessed. The fire started between the third and fourth floors around 1.30 pm, and spread rapidly. Regional Disaster Management Cell chief Santosh Kadam said some 150 people inside the building were shifted out. The government today said it has decided to allot 11 mines to Coal India Ltd (CIL) which will add about 225 million tonnes (MT) to the state-owned firm's annual production capacity by 2022. CIL has a target to produce 1 billion tonne coal by March 2020, up from around 600 MT projected in the current fiscal. "The government has decided to allot 11 coal mines to Coal India," Coal Minister Piyush Goyal told reporters here. Of the 11 mines, five are deallocated blocks and six are fresh mines, he said. The company had requested the government to allot it additional coal mines to make all its subsidiaries 100 MT capacity units. Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL), Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL) and Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL) do not have adequate reserves of the dry fuel at present. "The allotment of these coal mines to CIL will make its arms 100 million tonnes plus coal producing subsidiaries," Goyal said.
