'Humbled' but unfazed, says George Santos after Trump commutes his sentence

Freed from the prison where he had been serving time for ripping off his campaign donors, former US Rep George Santos says he's humbled by his experience behind bars but unconcerned about the pearl clutching of critics upset that President Donald Trump granted him clemency. I'm pretty confident if President Trump had pardoned Jesus Christ off the cross, he would have had critics," Santos said on Sunday in an interview on CNN. Santos, who won office after inventing a bogus persona as a Wall Street dealmaker, pleaded guilty to fraud and identity theft last year and began serving a seven-year sentence in July at a prison in New Jersey. But Trump ordered his release on Friday after he served just 84 days. Trump called Santos a rogue, but said he did not deserve a harsh sentence and should get credit for voting Republican. Speaking on CNN's State of the Union, Santos said he had learned a great deal and had a very large slice of humble pie, if not the whole pie while in prison. He also

Trump calls Colombia's Petro an 'illegal drug dealer', ends US aid

President Donald Trump said Sunday he would slash US funding to Colombia because the country's leader does nothing to stop drug production, in what is the latest sign of friction between Washington and one of its closest allies in Latin America. In a social media post, Trump referred to Colombian President Gustavo Petro as an illegal drug dealer who is low rated and very unpopular. He warned that Petro better close up drug operations or the United States will close them up for him, and it won't be done nicely. Trump, while at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, wrote on his Truth Social platform that Petro is strongly encouraging the massive production of drugs, in big and small fields across Colombia, which the Republican president spelled as Columbia. Petro does nothing to stop it, despite large scale payments and subsidies from the USA that are nothing more than a long term rip off of America, Trump said. AS OF TODAY, THESE PAYMENTS, OR ANY OTHER FORM OF PAYMENT, OR SUBSIDIES, WIL

'No Kings' protests against Trump bring street party vibe to US cities

Large crowds of protesters marched and rallied in cities across the US Saturday for "No Kings" demonstrations decrying what participants see as the government's swift drift into authoritarianism under President Donald Trump. People carrying signs with slogans such as "Nothing is more patriotic than protesting" or "Resist Fascism" packed into New York City's Times Square and rallied by the thousands in parks in Boston, Atlanta and Chicago. Demonstrators marched through Washington and downtown Los Angeles and picketed outside capitols in several Republican-led states, a courthouse in Billings, Montana, and at hundreds of smaller public spaces. Trump's Republican Party disparaged the demonstrations as "Hate America" rallies, but in many places the events looked more like a street party. There were marching bands, a huge banner with the US Constitution's "We The People" preamble that people could sign, and demonstrators wearing inflatable costumes, particularly frogs, which have emerged

'Mauni Baba': Congress slams PM Modi after Trump repeats Russian oil claim

Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress on Saturday said the PM suddenly becomes a "mauni baba" whenever US President Donald Trump states that he stopped Operation Sindoor or that India will reduce its oil imports from Russia. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said President Trump has yet again stated that he has been assured by his "good friend" that India will cut back on its imports of oil from Russia. "But that good friend suddenly becomes a Mauni Baba whenever President Trump says he stopped Operation Sindoor and now when he says that India will reduce its imports of oil from Russia," Ramesh said in a post on X, taking a dig at PM Modi. Meanwhile, India's trade deficit with China during April-Sep 2025 increased to USD 54.4 billion as compared to USD 49.6 billion in the same period last year, the Congress leader said. His remarks come hours after the US president repeated his claims that India will not be buying oil from Russ

Reluctant to sell Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine: Trump to Zelenskyy

US President Donald Trump signalled to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday that he is leaning against selling him long-range Tomahawk missiles, while offering optimism that the war is moving toward an end that would mitigate a need for the powerful weapon. Zelenskyy at the start of the White House talks said he had a "proposition" in which Ukraine could provide the United States with its advanced drones, while Washington would sell Kyiv the Tomahawk cruise missiles that Ukrainian officials say they desperately need to motivate Russian President Vladmir Putin to get serious about peace talks. But Trump said he was hesitant to tap into the US supply, a turnabout after days of suggesting he was seriously weighing sending the missiles to help Ukraine beat back Russia's invasion. "I have an obligation also to make sure that we are completely stocked up as a country, because you never know what is going to happen in war and peace," Trump said. He added, "We would much rather

Trump calls on Ukraine, Russia to 'stop where they are' and end war

US President Donald Trump on Friday called on Kyiv and Moscow to "stop where they are" and end their brutal war following a lengthy White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump's frustration with the conflict has surfaced repeatedly in the nine months since he returned to office, but with his latest comments, he appeared to be edging back in the direction of pressing Ukraine to give up on retaking land it has lost to Russia. "Enough blood has been shed, with property lines being defined by War and Guts," Trump said in a Truth Social post not long after hosting Zelenskyy and his team for more than two hours of talks. "They should stop where they are. Let both claim Victory, let History decide!" Later, soon after arriving in Florida, where he is spending the weekend, Trump urged both sides to "stop the war immediately" and implied that Moscow keep territory it has taken from Kyiv. "You go by the battle line wherever it is -- otherwise it is too complicated,
