NCBC issues notice to NALSAR for not implementing OBC/BC quota in admission

SC stays Maharashtra govt decision for 10 pc quota in PG Medical courses for 2019-20

The Supreme Court Thursday stayed Maharashtra government's notification granting 10 per cent quota in admissions for the academic year 2019-20 to post graduate medical courses for students of economically weaker sections (EWS) across all classes. "Rules of game cannot be changed when the game is on" the top court said, pointing out that the admission process for PG Medical courses in Maharashtra for 2019-20 started long before the 10 per cent quota for EWS came into force by 103rd Constitutional amendment and subsequent notification by the state. A vacation bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Aniruddha Bose said 10 per cent EWS quota cannot be granted at the cost of others unless additional seats are created by the Medical Council of India (MCI). Online registration for undergraduate courses of DU to begin from 8 pm

The online registration for undergraduate courses of the Delhi University will begin on Thursday at 8 pm. The registration for postgraduate (PG) programmes, postgraduate Diploma in Cyber Security and Law and for M.Phil or PhD programmes will begin from June 3. The online registration for undergraduate courses will end on June 14 and the first cut-off is likely to be declared on June 20. The admission process by far has been the most delayed that the Delhi University has seen keeping students on tenterhooks. The Delhi University Thursday attributed the delay in start of its admission process, despite announcement of results by different boards, to a Delhi high Court order which has asked the varsity to realign its admission process with the reevaluation process. Last year the online registration for various courses had begun from May 15. Officials at the varsity said this year, the admissions were the most delayed. This year, the admission process will begin from 8 pm on Thursday. The online registration process will go on till June 14 and the first cut-off list is likely to be released on June 20. NTA to conduct entrance exams for DU

The National Testing Agency will be conducting entrance exams of more than 180 courses, including undergraduate programmes, of the Delhi University. Admission to undergraduate courses based on entrance examinations -- wherein admissions will be made based on marks scored in the entrance test and qualifying class 12 examination. There are 11 undergraduate courses to which admissions happen on the basis of entrance apart from MPhil, PhD and Masters programmes. The National Testing Agency (NTA) comes under the Ministry of Human Resource Development. According to Vinay Gupta, dean of examination, the exams will take place in three sessions per day and there will be jammers and CCTV surveillance at the centres. The two-hour written entrance examination will consist of multiple choice questions (MCQs) (four choices each) designed to evaluate the aptitude of applicants through areas as relevant to each subject. J-K police grants scholarship to school going wards of slain policemen

The director general of Jammu and Kashmir police has granted scholarship to 32 school going children of slain policemen with an aim to provide financial assistance to them, an officials said Thursday. DGP Dilbag Singh granted the scholarship last week to 12 students of nursery and primary classes, 14 students of middle and higher secondary classes and six wards pursuing graduation for the academic session 2018-19, a police spokesperson said. "Rs 5,000 each has been granted as scholarship to 32 school going wards of those deceased police personnel who died while in service due to natural causes or in accidents. The scholarships have been granted out of Central Police Welfare Fund," he said. Police headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir has been providing scholarships and rewards for wards of deceased and serving police personnel under different schemes to financially assist and boost their morale.

Scores of Kashmiri players, especially women, on Wednesday hurriedly made their way inside Srinagar JK academy of Unified Martial Arts to learn about martial arts techniques which include easy-to-remember defence tactics that can incapacitate the attacker.These students were trained by two international trainers from the United States."The trainers taught us how to punch and kick. We never got such kind of training in India. They had really nice techniques to counter attacks. Novel AI can detect cheating in school assignments

Scientists have created an artificial intelligence (AI) system that can accurately identify whether a student wrote their assignment on their own or got it penned by a ghostwriter. Several studies have shown that cheating on assignments is widespread and becoming increasingly prevalent among high school students. Researchers at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark have been working on ways to detect cheating on assignments through writing analysis by way of artificial intelligence have been underway for a few years. Based on analyses of 130,000 written Danish assignments, scientists can, with nearly 90 per cent accuracy, detect whether a student has written an assignment on their own or had it composed by a ghostwriter. DU to provide full scholarships to students whose parents are no more

The Delhi University, which will be starting its admissions from Wednesday, is mulling over giving full scholarships to students whose parents are no more or unemployed, the varsity said. The online registration for undergraduate programmes will commence from May 30, postgraduate (PG) programmes, postgraduate Diploma in Cyber Security and Law and for M.Phil or PhD programmes from June 3. "The University of Delhi is considering to provide full scholarships to students whose both parents are deceased or unemployed and half fee waiver to those students whose earning member is deceased in order to cover their college or university fee," the varsity said. The registration process of all the programmes will be completely online for all categories and quota. The Dean Students' Welfare Of?ce will organise open day sessions. Kerala govt resolves to implement Khader panel report on edu

The Kerala government Wednesday decided to implement the Khader Committee report, which proposes single directorate for education sector in the state. The decision in this regard was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. It was also decided to implement the suggestions of the report in phases. The cabinet has also decided to extend the date of re-opening of schools by three days to June 6, with the Ramzan festival expected to fall on June 4 or 5. "As part of the first phase of implementation of the report, the Directorate of Public Instruction, Higher Secondary Directorate and Vocational Higher Secondary Directorate will be brought under the Directorate of General Education," a release issued by the government said. Pak teacher booked for making student eat grass for forgetting lesson

A Pakistani school teacher has been booked for allegedly forcing a minor boy to eat grass for failing to study a lesson, a media report said on Wednesday. The incident happened at the Government Primary school of Punjab's Lodhran district on Monday where the seven-year-old student was forced to either eat grass or read out the lesson in front of his classmates, the Dawn newspaper reported. A video clip of the incident that went viral shows Kashan forgetting his lesson and eating grass after being forced by his teacher, identified as Hamid Raza, working on a contract basis at the school, the paper reported. Ensure employees paid as per service contract every month: HC to EDMC, NMCD

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the municipal corporations of north and east Delhi to ensure salaries are disbursed to their employees, including doctors and teachers, as per their service contracts. A bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice Brijesh Sethi also directed the corporations to file a compliance report every month indicating the payment of salaries. With the direction, the court listed the matter for further hearing on July 5. The order came on an application by NGO Social Jurist, moved through advocate Ashok Agarwal, seeking directions to the two corporations to disburse the salaries of March and April to the primary teachers and doctors employed by them. Agarwal, during the brief hearing, told the bench that teachers have not been paid for the last two months and in February, they received meagre amounts like Rs 4 and Rs 8 as salary after deduction of tax.
