Intermediate exam result fiasco: Panel submits report to

The three-member committee, constituted by the Telangana government to look into the discrepancies in the Intermediate examination results, submitted its report on Saturday. "The three-member committee to look into the developments that took place after the announcement of Intermediate results gave its report. It is under the consideration of the government," Education Secretary B Janardhan Reddy told reporters here. "Very soon, we will definitely share their recommendations and the Action Taken Report," he added. The 10-page report emphasised on the measures to be taken in future (to ensure smooth conduct of exams), according to a committee official. The alleged bungling in examination results led to protests by students, parents, students' organisations and political parties. UP board results: Tanu Tomar of Baghpat tops in class 12, Gautam Raghunanshi in class 10 exams

Tanu Tomar of Baghpat has notched the first position in the Intermediate examination (class 12) while Gautam Raghuvanshi of Kanpur has topped the class 10th board exams of Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP), the results of which were declared on Saturday. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has congratulated the successful students and wished them for their bright future. Tanu Tomar has achieved 97 per cent scoring 489 marks out of 500. She belongs to a farmer's family and was a student of Shri Ram Shiksha Mandir Inter College in Baraut area of Baghpat district. "She has not only bring honours to her family and the school but to the whole district," principal Rajesh Tomar said. Over 80 per cent students have passed in the class 10 while over 70 per cent have cleared the class 12 examinations. In all over 58 lakh students have registered themselves for this year's UP board exams.

4 get life term for killing student

A court here on Saturday sentenced four persons to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of a 16-year-old student in November 2016. District and Sessions Judge P K Mallik awarded the sentence to four persons, including the deceased's uncle after holding them guilty of kidnap, demanding ransom and murder. Saurav Kumar, the son of businessman Jai Choudhary, was kidnapped when he was on way to attend tuition class in Katihar on November 14, 2016. The kidnappers had demanded Rs 50 lakh as ransom to release Saurav from their captivity and the deceased's father had agreed to pay Rs 30 lakh to get his son released. The police had later exhumed Saurav's body from Baghmara area in Manihari block of the district.

Gautam Raghuvanshi tops High School examination of UP Board with 97.17 per cent

Gautam Raghuvanshi, a student of Onkareshwar Saraswati Vidya Niketan Inter College, Kanpur topped the High School examination of the Uttar Pradesh Board with 97.17 per cent marks on Saturday.Shivam from Sri Sai Inter College Lakhperabagh in Barabanki and Tauja Vishwakarma from Maharani Laxmi Bai Memorial Inter College, Barabanki stood second and third with 97 and 96.83 per cent, respectively.The results for the exams conducted in February were declared mid-day by the state board today.

FIR filed against KR Mangalam School for running illegal 2500 L diesel storage in basement

Delhi Government on Friday ordered an FIR and strict action against K R Mangalam School in Greater Kailash II for running an illegal diesel storage-cum- pumping station in the basement of the school.The basement fuel tank has a capacity of 2500 litres.The decision was taken by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia after parents of students reached out to him and protested against the school. "The parents of the school came to meet me on the April 16 about the fee hike, on which the Delhi government is getting an audit done," said Sisodia."The students were studying on top of a 'living bomb'. NHRC issues notice to Telangana over 18 student suicides

Taking suo motu cognisance of suicides of 18 students who had reportedly failed in the intermediate results in March this year, NHRC issued a notice to the chief secretary on Friday.More than 3 lakh students reportedly failed in the intermediate exams conducted by the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) in the state leading to protests by students and parents. The aggrieved students allege large-scale discrepancies in the examination process.Asking for a detailed report in the matter within 4 weeks, the NHRC has also asked for action against the guilty and relief to the aggrieved students and their parents.Terming the content of the news reports very serious in nature, the NHRC notice said, "Issue of serious lapse on part of the authorities amounts to the violation of human rights. Sisodia writes to DU asking if names for college governing bodies were cleared by executive council

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has written to the Delhi University asking whether the 188 names sent by it for nominations to the governing bodies of 28 colleges were cleared by the varsity's executive council. These 28 colleges are partially or fully funded by the Delhi government and no funds are being released for these colleges from the government since they do not have governing bodies currently. On April 23, the varsity wrote to the Directorate of Higher Education asking it to finalise the names to be nominated for the governing bodies of colleges. In response to the varsity's letter, Sisodia said the university should have sent about 400 names to the panel instead of 188 so that there are sufficient choices. He said the varsity should extend the term of existing governing bodies. Twelve colleges of the varsity are fully funded by the Delhi government, including the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College and the Maharaja Agrasen College.

BIE extends date to pay fees for supplementary exams to Apr 29

The Board of Intermediate Education in Telangana (BIE) which has been facing flak over the last few days over alleged bungling in declaration of results, Friday extended the date for paying fees for supplementary exam from April 27 to 29. The Board said in a release that the last date for applying for re-verification of answer sheets of passed students is April 27. Protests by some political parties and students' organisations, which began a few days ago against the alleged goof-up, continued on Friday. The Congress, TDP, BJP and other parties had met Governor E S L Narasimhan on Thursday and sought a judicial probe into the issue. NHRC notice to Telangana govt over reported 'goof-up' in intermediate exam results

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Telangana government over the reported goof-up in the intermediate exam results which allegedly led 18 students to commit suicide since March this year. The commission said it has taken cognisance on its own over media reports that 18 students, who had failed in the examinations conducted by the Board of Intermediate Education, have allegedly committed suicide amid massive protests in the state. "The commission has issued a notice to the chief secretary, government of Telangana, calling for a detailed report in the matter within four weeks, including action taken against the guilty and relief, if any, provided to the aggrieved families," the commission said in a press release. Govt finds fuel tank in south Delhi school; FIR ordered for endangering safety of students

The Delhi government has found an underground fuel tank in the basement of a prominent private school in Greater Kailash-II, prompting Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to order an FIR against it for "endangering" the safety of students. Students were sitting on a "ticking bomb," said Sisodia, who is also the education minister. He said 2,500 litres of diesel was seized and the tank has been filled up with sand. The school, however, claimed that it was not aware of any FIR being ordered against it by the Delhi government. "It's an air-conditioned school. In order to ensure continuous supply of power to the air conditioning system, generators, running on diesel, have been installed in the school.The quantity of diesel under reference is within limits permissible under the law.
