Andhra farmers with less than 5 acres land to get Rs 9000 under Annadata Sukhibhava scheme 2019

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday announced Rs 9000 each to the farmers with less than 5 acres land under Annadata Sukhibhava scheme 2019.Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister laid a foundation stone for the Muktyala Lift Irrigation Project and addressed students and farmers.Addressing the event, Naidu said: "Under Annadata Sukhibhava scheme 2019, an amount of Rs 9,000 will be given to the farmers having land less than 5 acres. This will be in addition to the Rs 6,000 announced by the Central government.""Farmers having land more than 5 acres, will be given Rs 10,000. Valley student booked in Dehradun, reports say Kashmiris 'harassed'

A Kashmiri student was booked for allegedly sending WhatsApp messages supporting the Pulwama suicide attack, amid reports that students from the Valley were being harassed in the Uttarakhand capital. The messages shared by the Kashmiri student on WhatsApp created tension and some right-wing Hindu outfits gheraoed the university, demanding immediate arrest of the student. The student was suspended by a private university in Dehradun on Friday. When asked whether landlords in Dehradun were under pressure from a section of the local population to not give rooms on rent to Kashmiri students, Dehradun SSP Nivedita Kukreti said there are such reports but no formal complaints have been received. Left students' body wants govt to stop question paper leak

The Students Federation of India (SFI), the student arm of CPI(M), Saturday demanded immediate action by the state government to stop Madhyamik question papers from being leaked. The SFI alleged that the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has failed to stop circulation of photos of Madhyamik question papers on WhatsApp. The statement was issued after Saturday's geography question paper was allegedly leaked on WhatsApp. Saturday was the fourth day of this year's Madhyamik examination that began on February 12. There were reports that the Bengali, English and History question papers were also leaked. Ambala village panchayat asks villagers to evict Kashmiri tenants

A village panchayat here has asked villagers to evict Kashmiri students living in rented accommodation within 24 hours in the wake of the Pulwama terror attack, according to a video that has surfaced on social media. Half a dozen Kashmiri students have been shifted to the hostel of the MM University after the purported video appeared. In the video, Mulana village sarpanch Naresh Rana could be heard asking villagers to evict Kashmiri tenants. Manasbal Blast case: Charge sheet filed against 5 accused

The police on Saturday presented a charge sheet before a session's court against five accused in the Manasbal Park blast case in which around 10 civilians were injured.The accused include Irfan Ahmad Khan, Mohammad Younis Khan, Bilal Ahmad Hastiwala, and Mohammad Imran Sofi who are residents of Koundbal Safapora and Bilal Ahmad Mir resident of Cheshmai Manasbal.In a statement, the police ensured that during trial proper follow-up of the case will be ensured.The blast took place on June 17, 2018, in which 13 local visitors, including minors and students, were seriously injured.

Pak school punished after students dance on Indian song, wave India's flag

Pakistani authorities have suspended the registration of a school here after some students danced to an Indian song and waved India's national flag during a cultural event, hurting the country's "national dignity". A show-cause notice was issued to the school's owner on Wednesday to appear before the Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions Sindh (DIRPIS). 15,000 contractual teachers imparting education in Himachal schools: Minister

As many as 15,791 contractual teachers are imparting education in government schools of Himachal Pradesh, education minister Suresh Bhardwaj informed the state assembly on Saturday. Bhardwaj said 11,035 teachers are working on government and Parent Teachers Association-Grant in Aid (PTA-GIA) contract, whereas the rest 4,756 teachers under Primary Assistant Teachers (PAT) and Parent Teachers Association (PTA) policies. He said the teachers may be appointed and dealt under these separate policies but nothing is mentioned in these policies about regularising their services. He said the government wants to regularise these teachers and that is why Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur announced while presenting the Budget on February 9 that PTA and PAT teachers will be provided salary at par with regular teachers. 2 lecturers, school teacher suspended for dereliction of duty

Two college lecturers and a school teacher were placed under suspension for alleged dereliction of duty and failure to report for training classes for upcoming elections in Odisha's Jajpur district, officials said Saturday. Jajpur Collector and District Election Officer (DEO) Ranjan Kumar Das suspended a lecturer of Janaki Madhusuadn college, a lecturer of B Junior College at Brahmabarada, and an assistant teacher Korei block on Friday, they said. While the two lecturers were appointed as presiding officers, the assistant teacher was appointed as first polling officer for the ensuing elections. The three were directed to report at training classes on Thursday, but they failed to report without intimating the authority concerned, the collector said. "The three have been placed under suspension for dereliction of election duty," he said.

Maha govt plans to make self-defence part of school curriculum

The Maharashtra government is considering to make training in self-defence a part of the school curriculum in the state. Maharashtra Education Minister Vinod Tawde gave this assurance in response to an online petition filed by a woman self-defence coach from Pune, Neha Shrimal. In the petition posted on Change.org in September last year, Shrimal, a mother of seven-year-old girl, had demanded making self-defence training compulsory for all the schools in the state. The petition received over 1.38 lakh signatures in support of the demand. In the petition, Shrimal gave an example of how an 18-year-old girl fought off three men harassing her and handed them over to police in Birbhum in West Bengal. French students to join global protest over climate 'inaction'

French school children are set to skip school and demand action on climate change on Friday, following the example of other young demonstrators around Europe and in Australia for the first time. A pan-India students and youths organisations' collective-Young India National Coordination Committee (YINCC) has said it will begin campaigns next month across the country to vote BJP out of power for "ditching" the student community. Ol Chiki to be taught in primary schools of Santhal Pargana

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das Thursday announced introduction of Ol Chiki, the Santhali script, from class 1 to class 5 in all the six districts of Santhal Pargana region of the state. "Development of the Santhal Pargana region is priority to the government. To overcome stigma of poverty, education is necessary. Jharkhand's culture and language have their own identity. The government is committed to conserve and promote them," Das said at a function here. He said names of all government offices in Santhal Pargana will be registered in Ol Chiki along with Hindi. Indian-origin student hanged herself after depressive illness, UK inquest concludes

An Indian-origin student who hanged herself on the grounds of her school in London two years ago died as a consequence of a depressive illness, an inquest into her death concluded this week. Elena Mondal was found unresponsive by her teachers in a wooded area at Hampstead's exclusive girls' school Henrietta Barnett in north London in June 2017. The 14-year-old had been rushed to hospital after a self-harming incident on the school premises just weeks before her death, the inquest was told. Andrew Walker, the coroner leading the proceedings to determine the facts behind the death, concluded on Wednesday that the schoolgirl died as a consequence of a "depressive illness". "What needs to happen is that as a society we need to look at how we treat our young people and ask ourselves some questions, the answers to which may be difficult for us to hear," said Walker. Foreign students in Gujarat told not to approach police, media

The Gujarat University authorities have asked the around 280 foreign students enrolled under its Study Abroad Programme (SAP) not to approach the media or police without permission. The co-ordinator of SAP, Neerja Gupta, told PTI Thursday that the directive, in the form of a circular issued in October last year, is not a "ban" on interaction with media or on approaching the police. The circular, issued by Gupta, says a "strict warning is given to all foreign students...that engagement with any outer agency like media or police without prior permission of Gujarat University shall invite immediate expulsion for violating the code of conduct." The directive was meant for foreign students residing in three hostels under the SAP. Gupta said the circular should not be looked upon as a ban.
