The Delhi High Court Monday directed the AAP government not to take any coercive steps such as suspension or rustication against the students of the city schools for not providing self-attested copies of voter ID cards and mobile phone numbers of their own and that of the family members. Indian Institute of Technology-Madras has recorded a gradual increase in number of pre-placement offers for the past three years with 130 students receiving it in the 2018-19 academic year. This was against 114 received last year. Pre-placement offers (PPO) are offers that students receive after summer internships, while the actual placement season at most IITs begin December 1 every year. During 2015-16, PPOs were 69, it was 73 in 2016-17 and 114 in 2017-18, according to an institute release. The trend has been attributed to the institute's "robust" internship programme and "excellent" performance of students during the programme. Institute's Training and Placement Advisor Manu Santhanam said, "The good number of PPOs is hopefully indicative of a strong placement season. The steady increase over the years in PPOs also points to the value placed by recruiters on the internship programme." Following a complaint by two students of BA LLB course who accused the professor of sexual harassment on a social media platform, the Internal Complaints Committee at the institute suspended the faculty member on October 16. In a related development, the two students were also asked to vacate the campus after the institute charged them of trying to "misrepresent facts" and "divert the attention from the issue of disciplinary misconduct by these two students". In a horrifying incident, a video of four college students being brutally tortured and forced into performing unnatural sex in Bihar's Begusarai district has surfaced online after which the state police have taken a number of unidentified miscreants into custody.The incident happened on October 24, when the miscreants kidnapped the four students of Kushwaha hostel, located in Pokhariya area of Town Police Station, and later tortured them, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Manoj Tiwari."They had a dispute over water. Students are levelling some other allegations too against the people who kidnapped them. People against whom allegations have been levelled have been rounded up for interrogation. The Delhi government is planning to conduct a vaccination campaign in its schools in January to eliminate measles and control rubella. The measles-rubella (MR) vaccination campaign will be conducted within a period of three to four weeks starting from January 16, 2019. "All children aged nine months to less than 15 years will be provided with an additional dose of MR Vaccine, regardless of previous vaccination status or history of measles/rubella-like illness," the government said in a letter to its schools. Under the MR campaign, the departments of health and education are partnering so as students and teachers of all the schools of Delhi actively participate in the programme. "This will include orientation for officers, principals, teachers and students by experts of the Health Department. The British Council and the Arunachal Pradesh government Sunday inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen educational and cultural cooperation between the state and the United Kingdom. The MoU was signed by British Council director Alan Gemmell and Arunachal Pradesh Higher and Technical Education director Dr Tayek Talom in presence of Chief Minister Pema Khandu at Tawang in the sidelines of the Tawang Festival. The MoU celebrates the British Councils 70th anniversary in India and seeks to strengthen the relationship for the next 70 years.
