A school teacher has been suspended for making students, who had gone on an excursion, sleep on the street after their bus broke down on Tuesday night.The students from a school in East Champaran district had gone on an excursion as part of the Mukhyamantri Bihar Darshan Yojna. Apparently the children were made to sleep on the road outside the Patna zoo as the bus in which they were travelling broke down.The zoo is situated near the Chief Minister's residence but no help was extended to the stranded students. However, as soon as the matter was brought to the notice of the administration, the state government suspended Anand Singh, the teacher who was accompanying the students.

Two men allegedly harassed girl students in the district in Uttar Pradesh in separate incidents following which they were thrashed by onlookers, police said Thursday. According to SHO DK Tyagi, a man harassed a girl when she was going for her tuition near Meenakshi Chowk here. Sadik was thrashed by a crowd which handed him over to the police later. A case was registered against him and he was arrested, the SHO said. In the second incident, a girl was harassed by a man when she was on her way to college on Bhopa road. He was thrashed by people who later handed him to the police. A case was registered against Anmol Sharma and he was arrested. The victim alleged that she was being harassed from some days on her way to college.
A man whose brutal knife attack left nine schoolchildren dead and injured 12 others was executed in China on Thursday. Zhao Zewei was sentenced to death in July for the massacre -- reportedly motivated by a grudge against the school in northern Shaanxi province, which he had attended as a child. The defendant "intentionally deprived others of their lives," the court that handed down the decision said in a statement on its official social media account. At least five students, some of them minor, were allegedly raped and three others molested by the director of a residential school for tribals in Maharashtra's Sangli district, police said Wednesday. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh appealed to several student organisations to withdraw their call for a 48-hour state-wide bandh beginning from Wednesday midnight, demanding release of the arrested teachers and students of the Manipur University. The chief minister said any issue can be resolved through dialogue and his government is ready to hold talks with the students anywhere and anytime. Suspended vice-chancellor of Manipur University Prof Aditya Prasad Pandey, against whom a probe has been initiated, failed to "appear in person" before the enquiry committee on Wednesday, a statement issued by the panel said here. The two-member committee had asked him to appear in person for three consecutive days starting Wednesday when all the witnesses will be examined. The Government Medical College (GMC) of Amritsar has banned girls from wearing skirts, t-shirts, jeans and shorts in the college premises. Boys have also been asked to wear formal trousers instead of jeans, according to a circular issued by college Principal Sujata Sharma. The head of the department has been asked to ensure that the dress code is followed by all the students, it said. The new dress code will come into effect from October 1. The CBSE has cancelled the affiliation of a leading private boarding school here after it allegedly kept under wraps the gang-rape of a minor student for over a month. The Central Board of Secondary Education issued an order on Tuesday cancelling the affiliation of GRD World School, Bhauwala, for not giving a satisfactory reply to a show cause notice served to it by the regional office of the board in the wake of the incident, Regional Officer CBSE, Dehradun, Ranvir Singh said. The action follows a recommendation to this effect by the state government after the chief education officer visited the school premises following the incident and found it guilty of violating various norms, including non-installation of CCTV cameras and non-deployment of enough security staff on the campus, he said. Around 41,000 posts, including those of over 27,000 teachers, are lying vacant in various government run schools across Assam, the state assembly was informed on Wednesday. The government had a plan to appoint teachers but it was now pending in court, Minister of State for Education Pallab Lochan Das said replying to a query by AGP MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita. Das said a total of 40,845 posts are lying vacant in various government-run schools and out of these, 27,202 posts are of teachers. The state government had advertised to appoint 9,513 posts, but the matter has been dragged to the court, he said. "We also wanted to appoint and regularise 6,200 teachers in middle level schools, but that too has been challenged in court," Das said.
