The ABVP and the NSUI claimed Sunday their vote share has increased over the years in the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union election and they will continue their fight for the rights of students. Javadekar inaugurates over 3,400 centres for students to take practice tests

Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on Sunday inaugurated a network of 3,404 Test Practice Centres (TPCs) spread across the country to help students get familiar with the pattern of competitive exams to be conducted by the newly established National Testing Agency (NTA). The minister inaugurated the TPCs over Google Hangouts. These test centres have been set up to help students appearing for entrance examinations for higher education get used to the changed mode and pattern of exams. We are launching TPCs across the country for those students who do not have computers and smart phones. Now, no student will suffer due to lack of resources," Javadekar said. The government has changed the pattern of JEE (Mains) and UGC NET examination from this year. Now it has become computer based instead of pen and paper mode. UP govt to make secondary education 'model for quality': Dy CM

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma has said the state government is working towards making secondary education in the state a "model for quality education". Sharma, who also holds the Secondary Education and Higher Education portfolio, said a number of steps have been taken to ensure "cheating free" examination in the state. He highlighted a slew of measures taken by the Yogi Adityanath-led government to improve the quality of secondary education in the state. UP college tonsures heads of students; parents seek action

Angry parents and their wards took to streets at Shahpur town after a college here ordered tonsuring the heads of its students, officials said Sunday. Sub Divisional Magistrate Bhupender Kumar said Rashtriya Inter College, Shahpur authorities tonsured the heads of hundreds of its students recently. Agitated by the incident, many students and their parents blocked the Budhana-Muzaffarnagar road on Saturday, demanding action against the educational institute, he said. Meanwhile, disciplinary action has been initiated against college principal Virender Singh and manager Rahul Baiyan, college authorities said. Security has been tightened in the college premises.

UIDAI earmarks Rs 200 cr to fund Aadhaar enrolment machines for schools in talukas

Government agency UIDAI will offer Rs 200 crore assistance to states to fund enrolment machines in sub-districts (talukas) that can be used for Aadhaar enrolment and updation of school students. The move comes just days after the Aadhaar-issuing body instructed schools not to refuse admission to students for lack of the 12-digit biometric identifier, while placing the onus on the educational institutions to arrange for enrolments and biometric update facility for such students. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has now decided to go a step further to enable such enrolment through provision of Aadhaar machines and accordingly, it will facilitate the availability of two machines per taluka. "It has been decided that UIDAI will provide fund for two Aadhaar enrolment machines to every taluka, which will work under the supervision of district administration," UIDAI CEO Ajay Bhushan Pandey told PTI. Left leading on all central panel posts in JNU

The United Left is leading in all four central panel posts in the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union polls, counting for which is underway. According to the election committee, after counting 3,281 out of 5185 votes, N Sai Balaji, presidential candidate of the Left is leading with 1,350 votes. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) candidate Lalit Pandey was at the second position with 605 votes followed by Thallapalli Praveen from BAPSA (Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students Association). JNSU polls: Counting resumes after being suspended for 14 hours following protest by ABVP

Counting of votes in the JNU students union polls was suspended for over 14 hours on Saturday by election authorities citing "forcible entry" and "attempts to snatch away ballot boxes" at counting venue, after the ABVP staged protests claiming it was not informed about the start of the process. The counting, which was suspended at 4 am, resumed at 6.30 pm after two teachers from the Grievance Redressal Cell were appointed as observers for the exercise, officials said. "Election Committee had resumed counting process at 6.30 pm. Counting agents for central panel for combined science schools and special centre remain same. Two pvt schools in Kashmir lose recognition over 'exorbitant' fee hike

Authorities in Kashmir Saturday suspended the recognition of two prominent private schools here for "exorbitant fee hike and non-compliance of orders" from the Department of School Education. "The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) today ordered suspension of recognition of RP School Mallabagh and Green Valley Educational Institute, Ellahibagh, for exorbitant fee hike and non-compliance of orders from the Department," an official spokesman said. He said an order has been issued in this regard and a communication forwarded to Joint Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) and Principal, District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Srinagar, wherein they were instructed not to entertain any affair of the schools till further instructions from the directorate. BCKV impasse resolved, classes may resume next week

The impasse at the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV) in Nadia district was resolved Saturday after West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee held talks with all stakeholders. Chatterjee asked the authorities to allow the students stay at the hostels and ensure that classes begin from early next week. Earlier in the day, the university authorities have declared indefinite suspension of classes and ordered the students to vacate the hostels with immediate effect. BCKV classes suspended, students asked to vacate hostels

Two days after the students of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV) gheraoed Vice Chancellor Dharani Dhar Patra for over 24 hours, the university authorities have declared indefinite suspension of classes and ordered the students to vacate the hostels with immediate effect. Stating the academic activities in the institute were being hampered, the BCKV authorities said in a notice posted on BCKV website on Friday night: "... all the academic activities including all classes shall remain suspended until further notice." In another notice, the BCKV said: "the Students' Hostels (Boys' and Girls') of the Mohanpur campus of this university shall be closed with effect from 15.09.2018 and all the students residing in the said hostels shall have to vacate their respective hostels simultaneously."
