Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel today said the coming examinations of government-run universities in the state should be conducted under the surveillance of CCTV cameras. Being the governor, Patel is the Chancellor of all the universities run by the state government. Speaking at the convocation of Devi Ahilya University here, she said, "CCTV cameras should be installed in all buildings of the state-run universities where written or oral examinations will be conducted in the coming days." This would ensure a transparent examination system, Patel said. Vice chancellors of all the universities have been asked to visit Bhopal on April 6 and present annual calendars of their respective institutions, Patel said. The calendar is supposed to have the schedule of examinations, deadline for declaration of results and details of academic and cultural activities planned for the coming year. The re-examination of CBSE's Class 12 economics paper will be held on April 25, while the re-test for Class 10 mathematics is likely to be conducted in July, Education Secretary Anil Swarup said today. He said a preliminary enquiry has revealed that the leak for Class 10 mathematics paper is restricted to Delhi and Haryana. There has been no leak outside India, hence no re-examination will be held outside the country, he said. The question papers are different for students appearing for the CBSE examinations outside India. CBSE has already announced re-exam of Class 10 mathematics and Class 12 economics papers after the alleged paper leak. Police is investigating the matter.
Private medical colleges in Uttarakhand have been asked to rollback the manifold hike in their annual fees, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said. He told reporters here that the decision was taken in the interest of medical students who found it hard to meet the expenses. "A direction to this effect was issued after students of private medical colleges here and their guardians approached me with a request citing ill-affordability of the raised fees," he said. However, the chief minister said the recent hike was effected by the administration of private medical colleges as they had to spend a lot over strengthening their infrastructure. The Akshaya Patra Foundation in partnership with Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Infosys, today inaugurated a high-tech mega centralised kitchen at Kandi in Sangareddy district of Telangana. Infosys Foundation has covered the entire cost of constructing this centralised kitchen by providing a grant of Rs 18.50 crore. The kitchen, which is spread across 64,438 sqft, will provide mid-day meals to over one lakh school children a day in the region, a release said here. Children who are "night owls" and attend early morning classes are more likely to receive lower grades, a study has found. Students whose circadian rhythms were out of sync with their class schedules received lower grades due to 'social jet lag,' a condition in which peak alertness times are at odds with work, school or other demands. In addition to learning deficits, social jet lag has been tied to obesity and excessive alcohol and tobacco use. "We found that the majority of students were being jet-lagged by their class times, which correlated very strongly with decreased academic performance," said Benjamin Smarr from University of California, Berkeley in the US.
