The authorities swung into action soon after the video related to the last week incident occurring on two consecutive days, June 13 and 14, at a school in Kathua near here went viral. The government is striving to increase the number of seats in higher educational institutions by one-and-a-half times by 2024, President Ram Nath Kovind said Thursday. The QS global rankings 2020, which was released in London, has 50 new entrants globally and India-based O P Jindal Global University (JGU), established in 2009, has become the youngest university to break into top 1,000 in the prestigious rankings. A meeting scheduled for June 22 between HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and state education ministers on the National Education Policy has been postponed to the first week of June, officials said. The meeting has been postponed due to the ongoing Parliament session and the demand for more time to study the policy. The National Education Policy and the recruitment against vacant posts in educational institutions will be on the agenda when the HRD Minister will hold the meeting. After the meeting, the policy is likely to be finalised. Pokhriyal had assumed the charge of the ministry on May 31. Officials said the Union minister will hold the meeting with state education ministers to discuss the education policy, which will be finalised after a discussion with state governments. Public feedback has been sought on the policy till June 30.

Delhi University will announce its first cut-off for admission to various undergraduate courses in its colleges on June 28. The varsity announced its revised admission schedule Wednesday. DU had earlier extended its registration date to June 22 after the Delhi High Court ordered it to follow the last year's eligibility criteria for granting admission. The varsity said the first cut-off will be released on June 28, second on July 4, third on July 9, fourth on July 15 and fifth on July 20 for undergraduate courses. The first admission list will be put up on July 17 for postgraduate courses, second one July 22, third on July 27 and fourth on August 2.

A pre-primary teacher of a government school here has slammed authorities of the institution alleging that they were not permitting her to rejoin duty after maternity leave. They had also verbally insulted her over her marital status and pregnancy, the 33-year-old woman, who has approached the Deputy Director of Education (DDE) over the denial of job to her, alleged.
