'Race 3' mints Rs 255.52 cr worldwide within first week
Salman Khan's Eid release, 'Race 3' witnessed a phenomenal run at the overseas box office, minting Rs 255.52 crore gross within a week.The film also inched close to 150 cr at the domestic box office by garnering Rs 6.04 crore on day 7.In its feats, 'Race 3' also has the credit of crossing Rs 100 crore mark at the domestic market in the first weekend.The film also became the highest opener of 2018 by minting Rs 29.17 crore on day 1.'Race 3' is a stand-alone sequel to the hit franchise 'Race'. With the third installment, Salman has replaced Saif Ali Khan who played the lead in first two films.Starring an ensemble cast of Salman, Jacqueline, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Freddy Daruwala, Saqib Saleem, and Daisy Shah, the action thriller is one of the most awaited films.Produced by Salman Khan Films and Ramesh Taurani under the banner of Tips Films, 'Race 3' is directed by Remo D'souza.The film hit the theatres on June 15.

'Padmaavat' to be screened at Shanghai Film Festival
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmaavat' is continuing to set benchmarks at a global level.Having crossed over Rs 585 crores at the worldwide box office, the period drama will now be screened at the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival.The visual extravaganza will be screened in the non-competition section of Focus India of the SIFF, to be held from June 16 to 25.'Padmaavat' broke box office records both on home turf and overseas, helping filmmaker Bhansali outdo his last box office numbers.The film, which released on January 25, had run into trouble time and again, as members of several Rajput factions had accused Bhansali of distorting history.Starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor in pivotal roles, the film is based on the legend of Rani Padmini, a 13th century Hindu Rajput queen, mentioned in Padmavat, an Awadhi poem written by Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540.
PCI to invite Prez Kovind as chief guest on National Press Day event
The Press Council of India will invite President Ram Nath Kovind as the chief guest at the function to mark the National Press Day on November 16, sources said. In its meeting held today, the Council also proposed to invite Chairmen of all SAARC Press/Media Councils on the occasion, they added. During the celebrations, several awards including the prestigious Raja Ram Mohan Roy Award will be given away for distinguished services in journalism. A jury committee was formed with representatives from working journalists, editors, owners and government nominee to select the awardees. Some members also expressed discontent over issuing of two notification by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry for reconstituting the council, the sources said. On March 16, the government had notified the names of eight nominated members of the reconstituted council. In another notification on May 30, the government announced 18 other members. Tamil Nadu Fisheries minister D Jayakumar today took a dig at actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan saying his meeting with political leaders was only to promote his upcoming movie, Viswaroopam 2. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a conference, here, Jayakumar, a senior leader of the ruling AIADMK, claimed the actor's meeting with Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy had nothing to do with politics but was only to promote his upcoming movie Viswaroopam 2. "That is his aim now," he said. Jayakumar, a vocal critic of Haasan, had sarcastially remarked yesterday that his party would not be bothered even if he met US President Donald Trump.
