Shameful we didn't know about the struggle of Sandeep Singh: Diljit

Actor Diljit Dosanjh will be seen playing the role of hockey player Sandeep Singh in the upcoming biopic "Soorma" but says it is sad that when the film was offered to him, he was not aware of his story. "Soorma" tells the story of Singh, a professional hockey player and former captain of the Indian national team. Singh was seriously injured after hit by an accidental gunshot in a train in 2006 but he did not give up and continued playing. "I knew that he was the captain but didn't know he was shot on his back. When I started playing hockey, I realised the entire game relies on your back- you have to bend to play it. So the pressure is double. "What I didn't know was, how a man who was shot, stood up, recovered and made a world record. It was shameful, but we didn't know," Diljit said in a group interview. 'Primates of Park Avenue' to get TV treatement

Wednesday Martin's memoir 'Primates of Park Avenue' is being scripted for a series, by Lionsgate TV.The studio is teaming with the author to develop a half-hour comedy, based on her 2016 New York Times best-seller from Simon & Schuster, reported Hollywood Reporter.The potential TV series, like the book, will follow anthropologist Martin, who, when she first arrives on New York City's Upper East Side, is utterly out of place with the glamorous, sharp-elbowed mommies around her. Universal to restore silent films

Universal Pictures announced that it will be restoring 10 new titles in the next few years in regard to its silent film initiative.On Wednesday, the studio confirmed the news at the screening of a restoration of the 1928 silent film 'The Man Who Laughs' at the San Francisco Silent Film Festival, confirmed Hollywood Reporter.Since 2012, Universal's silent film initiative has led to the restoration of 78 films including major titles like 'Dracula' (1931), 'Frankenstein', 'Jaws', 'Schindler's List', 'Out of Africa', 'The Sting', 'To Kill a Mockingbird', 'Double Indemnity', 'Holiday Inn', 'Spartacus' and 'Cleopatra'.Adapted from the novel of the same name by French author Victor Hugo, 'The Man Who Laughs' was directed by Paul Leni and stars Conrad Veidt and Mary Philbin.

HC reprieve for Rajinikanth in defamation case

The Madras High Court today stayed proceedings on a defamation complaint filed against superstar Rajinikanth in a lower court here by a film financier. Justice N Sathishkumar granted the interim stay valid till June 25 on a petition by the actor seeking to quash the proceedings and summons issued to him by the VII Metropolitan Magistrate Court on the complaint filed by S Mukunchand Bothra. The Judge directed Bothra to file his counter and adjourned the matter to June 25. The magistrate court had last month issued summons directing Rajinikanth to appear before it on June 6. Bothra filed the defamation complaint against Rajinikanth for his averment in a civil suit that he was attempting to extort money from him. The financier had claimed in the suit that he had given a loan of Rs 40 lakh to Rajinikanth's daughter's father-in-law Kasturi Raja, a film producer-cum-director, in January 2012 and a further amount of Rs 25 lakhs later. DMK, political parties flay Rajini's comments on protests

DMK and several other political parties in Tamil Nadu today hit out at superstar Rajinikanth for his comments that too many protests would turn the state into a 'graveyard'. However, the ruling AIADMK welcomed his remarks, made in the backdrop of the anti-Sterlite protests, blaming anti-social elements for the recent violence in Tuticorin that resulted in 13 deaths in police firing.
