'BlacKkKlansman' wins Grand Prix Award at Cannes

American director Spike Lee's 'BlacKkKlansman' has been awarded with Cannes Film Festival's top awards, the Grand Prix.The film is based on the true story of Ron Stallworth (played by John David Washington), a black Colorado Springs police officer who went undercover in the late 1970s to infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan.Cate Blanchett served as jury president this year, with Kristen Stewart, Denis Villeneuve, Lea Seydoux, and Ava DuVernay all on the jury as well.As for the coveted Palme d'Or, Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda received the honor for his film 'Shoplifters' (Manbiki Kazoku), reports Entertainment Weekly.

Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda took home the top prize -- the Palme d'Or for his film "Manbiki Kazoku" ("Shoplifters") at the 71st Cannes Film Festival. Kore-eda is only the second Asian Palme d'Or winner this millennium (after Thailand's Apichatpong Weerasethakul for "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives", 2010). Playing villain in 'Simmba' will be challenging: Sonu Sood

Sonu Sood, who will be playing the antagonist in "Simmba", says grey characters always interest him as there is more scope of performance. The 44-year-old actor has already started his preparation for the Rohit Shetty-directed cop drama, starring Ranveer Singh in the lead. "It is very challenging (role). When grey character gets entertaining, the job is done. We are all here to entertain you and I am sure you will be entertained," the actor said. Luc Besson accused of raping a woman in France

Director Luc Besson, known for movies like "Leon: The Professional," and "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets", has been reported to police on an accusation of raping a woman in France. The complaint was filed by a young female actor at a Paris police station on Friday. The actor, who worked with Besson on two films, told Variety that the incident, which she described as a "violent sexual assault," happened on May 10, following a meeting with the filmmaker at the Bristol Hotel near the Champs Elysees in Paris. Besson has "flatly" denied the allegations. His attorney said in a statement: "Mr Besson fell from his chair when he learned of these accusations, which he flatly denies." Film director Luc Besson accused of rape by actress: French judicial sources

Police in Paris have opened an investigation after an actress accused French film director Luc Besson of rape, judicial sources said today. "Luc Besson categorically denies these fantasist accusations," the film-maker's lawyer Thierry Marembert told AFP. "(The complainant) is someone he knows, towards whom he has never behaved inappropriately." Judicial sources said a "complaint has been made for acts qualifying as rape by the plaintiff which happened Thursday night into Friday in Paris," adding that Paris police were investigating the allegation against the 59-year-old.
