"Bloodline" star Kyle Chandler is joining the cast of George Clooney's "Catch 22" miniseries. The 52-year-old actor will play the role of Colonel Cathcart, which was to be originally played by Clooney, reported Variety. The series is based on Joseph Heller's 1961 novel of the same name. Set in Italy, the six-part series follows the story of John Yossarian (to be played by Christopher Abbott), a US Air Force bombardier who does not like the increasing number of flight missions being assigned. He is angered by a bureaucratic rule, Catch-22, which specifies that being concerned for ones safety is proof of sanity. Clooney, who will co-direct the series, will now portray the role of Scheisskopf, the training commander at Yossarian's cadet school. He is also executive producing along with Grant Heslov. Famous Punjabi singer Parmish Verma was shot at by some unidentified assailants in Mohali, police said today. The singer, who shot into fame with his song 'Gaal Nahin Kadhnai', was admitted to a private hospital in Mohali. "Some unidentified persons fired shots at Parmish last night at Sector 91 in Mohali when he was returning home. A bullet hit his leg," Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Chahal said. The official said that the singer was out of danger. A case has been registered in this regard, police said, adding that investigation was underway.

Chinese stars Gong Li and Jet Li are joining the cast of Disney's live-action reboot of "Mulan". The remake of Disney's 1998 animated film follows the story of Fa Mulan, the daughter of an ageing warrior, Fa Zhou. She impersonates as a man to replace her father during a general conscription during the Han Dynasty. Chinese actor Liu Yifei will play the title character in the project, Variety reported. Li, 54, known for films such as "The Expendables" series and "The Forbidden Kingdom" is in final talks to portray the emperor of China. Gong Li, 52, will play a powerful witch in the film. Earlier, Donnie Yen joined the cast of the film, which will be directed by Niki Caro. The "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" actor will be playing Mulan's mentor, Commander Tung mentor in the film. Impressed by regional cinema, director Shekhar Kapur, who headed the feature film jury of this year's National Film Awards, says Hindi film industry needs to pull up its socks. The veteran filmmaker singled out regional films, particularly Malayalam cinema, at the 65th National Film Awards announcement today.
