Guj HC defers hearing on 'Padmaavat' producers' plea until Wed

The Gujarat High Court today deferred until Wednesday the hearing on a plea by 'Padmaavat' producers seeking a direction to the state government to provide adequate police protection to theatres after fringe Rajput groups protested violently against the controversial film. Justice J B Pardiwala deferred the hearing after the petitioner - Viacom 18 Media Private Limited - sought time till Monday to submit additional information before the court. The government had sought the hearing to be adjourned till Wednesday. The court agreed with the government request. The producers of the film said in their petition that exhibitors were ready to screen the Sanjay Leela Bhansali- directed film in Gujarat but fear violence from fringe groups. A few fringe outfits, including the Karni Sena, have opposed the film based on the saga of the historic 13th century battle between Maharaja Ratan Singh and his army of Mewar and Sultan Alauddin Khilji of Delhi. Haasan to speak on issues "plaguing" TN at Harvard varsity

Veteran actor Kamal Haasan, who has announced his foray into politics, will deliver an address at the Harvard University on February 10, speaking on issues 'plaguing' Tamil Nadu. "The topic is Tamil Nadu.I chose to speak on it out of sheer necessity. Our state has sunk to the lowest depth," he was quoted as saying in a release issued by his publicist. He will be speaking on issues "plaguing" the state at the university's annual Indian conference. This will be the actor-director's second address at the institute, after his 2016 lecture there on freedom of expression, it said. "Harvard is a seat of learning like our Nalanda University....these platforms are important and can't be neglected. The makers of Rani Mukerji-starrer 'Hichki' have decided to postpone the release of the film to March.The movie, which was earlier scheduled to release on February 23, will now come out on March 23.Film critic Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to make the announcement as he wrote, "#Hichki shifted ahead... Directing a play no mean feat: Rajit Kapur

Thespian Rajit Kapur has said he finds directing a play more difficult than acting. A director is like the captain of a ship, he has more control over the production, but with power comes responsibilities, Kapur, who was recently here to stage his directorial venture, 'The Glass Menagerie', told PTI.
