Even as two historians claimed that 'Padmaavat' does not hurt sentiments of any caste or community, the Shri Rajput Karni Sena on Tuesday again claimed that historical facts had been tampered with in the movie.

Soumitra Chatterjee conferred Legion of Honour
Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee was tonight conferred the 'Legion of Honour', the highest civilian award of France. About three decades after the then French President Francois Mitterrand awarded the Legion of Honor to film maestro Satyajit Ray in 1987, his favourite actor got the honour here. "I wish he (Ray) could be present here to see you, Mr Soumitra Chatterjee, getting the highest French Civilian Honour," French Ambassador to India Alexandre Ziegler said while conferring the honour on Chatterjee who had acted in 14 of Ray's films. Describing the Dadasaheb Phalke winner as "the very prototype of Bengali gentleman", the envoy said though Chatterjee is 83 years old, he looked like just 50. "France loves him as much as he loves France and there was a retrospective of his representative films in France in 2016," he said. Suraj Pal Amu granted bail
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suraj Pal Amu, who was earlier arrested for his statements against the film 'Padmaavat', was on Tuesday granted bail.He was arrested on January 25 by Gurugram Police.Earlier in the day, he was discharged from Rohtak's Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), where he was admitted due to ill-health, and brought back to Gurugram's Bhondsi jail.The BJP leader is infamous for offering Rs 10 crore bounty for beheading actress Deepika Padukone and director Bhansali in November 2017 for allegedly distorting historical facts and showing Queen Padmini in a bad light in the film.
Twitter teams up with SIAM for Auto Expo 2018
Microblogging platform Twitter today said it has partnered automobile industry body SIAM for the upcoming Auto Expo 2018. The 14th edition of the biennial Auto Expo will take place this year on February 7-14. As part of the collaboration, Twitter will host a special #BlueRoom pop-up show onsite, live stream highlights from the Auto Expo, and make available a custom Auto Expo emoji, Twitter said in a statement. In addition, automotive majors like Hero Moto Corp, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki will live stream their showcase at the Auto Expo on Twitter, it added. Tata Motors will also feature live Q&A interaction with artistes, rock band Parikarma and guitarist Dhruv, a live performance onsite and video highlights on Twitter. After conquering the box-office with hits like 'Judwaa 2' and 'Badrinath ki Dulhania', actor Varun Dhawan has now become the youngest Bollywood actor to have a wax statue at Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong.Trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed the news on his Twitter profile with photos from the unveiling of Varun's wax statue.With this, he joined the bandwagon of A-list stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and others to have their wax statue at Madame Tussauds, Hong Kong.For the statue, Varun is seen doing his iconic Disco Deewane hook step from his debut film, 'Student of the Year'.Meanwhile, on the professional front, Varun will be next seen in Shoojit Sircar's 'October', alongside Banita Sandhu.The flick is slate to release on April 13.
India-France tie to be boosted
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said the good relation between India and France would be boosted further by the Kolkata book fair in which France is the theme country this year. At the inaugural programme of the 42nd International Kolkata Book Fair, Banerjee called upon the intellectuals to be alert against any effort to distort history and science. "France is the cultural capital of the world while Kolkata is the cultural capital of India. This book fair, which is known internationally, will further bolster the ties between the two nations," she said. Man mercilessly beats son, daughter in Rajasthan
A shocking video of a man mercilessly beating his five-year-old son and three-year-old daughter in Rajasthan's Rajsamand district for soiling their pants has gone viral, following which he was arrested today. The incident came into light after the accused's brother shot the video of the incident and posted it on social media. In the one-minute video, 32-year-old Chain Singh was seen thrashing his daughter Puja and suspended his son Lalit nude with a rope. The children were seen crying inconsolably, but their father was unstoppable. After watching the video, Children Welfare Committee President Bhawna Paliwal today registered an FIR against the accused father. "A case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC and under sections of Juvenile Justice Act against Singh and he was arrested," the investigating officer in the case and Assistant Sub-Inspector Mangi Lal said. According to Singh's neighbours, he was a habitual offender and would regularly beat his children.

R S Khangarot, the principal of Agarwal PG College in Jaipur, and B L Gupta, a retired professor of history at Rajasthan University, watched the movie in Bengaluru yesterday. "The film has nothing to do with history. I do not think it will hurt any section of society. The character of Rani Padmini in the film is not like the one in history," Khangarot said. Gupta seconded the view of Khangarot. "I feel that nothing in the film would hurt the sentiments of any particular caste. Nobody should have a problem," he said.
