Top writers from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have come together with a bunch of stories that celebrate love across cultures and love that defies barriers and threats. Stories of cross-border love and bonding by authors such as Selina Hossain (Bangladesh), Taha Kehar (Pakistan), Aditha Dissanayake and Daya Dissanayake (both Sri Lanka), Balraj Khanna (India) and Paola Martani (Italy) are included in the fifth anniversary edition of the quarterly The Equator Line magazine. The first issue of The Equator Line (TEL) in 2012 titled "India: Waiting for a New Helmsman" had on its cover a caparisoned elephant, its howdah empty, outside a red- sandstone fort. It was a bad year for Bollywood, both in terms of creativity and box office, as big superstars failed to bring in the money and the films that clicked with the audience were based on the tried-and-tested formula of sequels and spin-offs. Originality is the lifeline of any creative industry but 2017 proved to be a year that the filmmakers would want to forget as it was populated with big-budget disappointments like Salman Khan's "Tubelight", Shah Rukh Khan's "Jab Harry Met Sejal" and Sanjay Dutt's comeback "Bhoomi". Younger stars such as Varun Dhawan did work with the audience but the films -- "Badrinath Ki Dulhania" and "Judwaa 2" -- were either a sequel or a spin-off. Rohit Shetty, the master of masala entertainment, recovered from the "Dilwale" setback to deliver a hit with "Golmaal Again", his fourth in the franchise. Akshay Kumar started his year with a sequel "Jolly LLB 2" and the not-so successful "Baby" spin-off in "Naam Shabana". Remaking films from different ...

He maybe be one of the greatest directors on the planet, but filmmaker Ridley Scott has revealed that Disney will never allow him to helm a brand new 'Star Wars' movie.According to Contactmusic.com, the 80-year-old director feels that Disney would be too restrictive in his creative freedom for him to want to take a flick in the franchise on.He also shared that he'll be "too dangerous" for the role of director on a 'Star Wars' entry."I think they like to be in control, and I like to be in control myself. As a part of the initiative, the recent exhibition at the Kolkata International Film Festival 2017, showcasing vintage cameras and other studio equipment used in Bengali cinema along with other archival materials should be permanently kept in a prominent gallery, Ghosh suggested. "The proposed exhibition will show how our films evolved over the years but a lot more needs to be done," the 'Sankhachil' director said adding he will talk to the state government about it. There should also be consistent research to track the entire history of Bengali cinema for the authentic documentation of films made in the last century, Ghosh said at the launch of a platform 'Bangla Cinema 100', yesterday evening. Ghosh said on the 100th year of Indian cinema in 2013, the Ministry of Culture had restored 80-100 Indian films ...

Ridley Scott has said the film "Blade Runner 2049", a sequel to 1982 sci-fi classic, was "too long". In an interview, Scott was asked about the Denis Villeneuve-directed film, which featured actors Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford in the lead roles. The original "Blade Runner" had a run time of one hour and 57 minutes, while the "Blade Runner 2049" stretched over two hours and 40 minutes. "I have to be careful what I say," Scott said at first, before adding, "It was f**king way too long. F**k me! And most of that script's mine," Scott told Vulture. Hampton Fancher, who wrote the original "Blade Runner" with David Peoples, received the screenplay credit for the sequel along with Michael Green. "I sit with writers for an inordinate amount of time and I will not take credit, because it means I've got to sit there with a tape recorder while we talk. "I can't do that to a good writer. But I have to, because to prove I'm part of the actual process, I have to then have an endless
