"Narcos" co-creator Christopher Brancato is happy that he found a global hit in Netflix's drug drama "Narcos", whose story has fascinated people world over. The first two seasons of the Netflix series chronicled the rise and eventual fall of the notorious Colombian cocaine king Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) through the eyes of DEA agents Javier Pena and Steve Murphy (Pedro Pascal and Boyd Holbrook). Brancato said filmmaker Eric Newman was developing a movie on Escobar for 17 years but he felt it would be hard to tell the story as a 2-hour-long film. Inmates of two correctional homes here will act in an English play 'The Teahouse of the August Moon' as part of effort by the jail authorities to involve them in cultural activities. The play was adapted from a 1951 novel by Vern J Sneider. It had earlier been adapted as a Broadway play in 1953. In 1956 an American film, based on the book, was made which starred Marlon Brando among others. "There are several characters in this play and hence a large number of inmates could be inducted and given chance to explore their acting skill. They all enjoyed the whole experience during rehearsal," one of the directors of the play, Nandini Bandyopadhyay said. The inmates, numbering around 15, were mainly drawn from Alipore Central Correctional Home and few from Alipore Women's Correctional Home. The first edition of Assam International Rural Film Festival (AIRFF), the audiences enjoyed some world classics at Phesual village of Meleng tea garden area, which is about 25 km from Jorhat town and 320 km east of Guwahati. Through the four-day festival, which opened on December 23, the Assam Film Society (AFS), which closes today, screened old classics as well as newly released regional films for the villagers. "I am involved with film festivals and societies across the country and worldwide for the last 40 years. I have never seen a proper international film festival being held at such an interior place in temporary theatres.
