Mariah Carey will return to Times Square for New Year gig

Singer Mariah Carey will return to New Year's Rockin' Eve on December 31. The performance will come exactly a year after the singer staged a messed up gig at New York's Times Square on the 2016-ending special. The 46-year-old singer was ringing in the new year on the show "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest", but had to stop her performance following technical difficulties. "We can all agree that last year didn't go exactly as planned and we are thrilled to move forward together to provide America with an incredible night of music and celebration on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2018. "See you in Times Square!" said a joint statement by Carey and Dick Clark Productions. Other artistes announced for the live Times Square performance include Camila Cabello, Nick Jonas and Sugarland.

Oprah Winfrey alerts fans to financial 'fraud'

Talk show host and media mogul Oprah Winfrey has asked her fans to be wary of an online scam that uses her name and photo. In a video posted on her social media accounts -- Facebook, Twitter and Instagram --, Winfrey said imposters are asking for money for signing up for an OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) account on Instagram. "It's a fraud, it's a fraud, it's a fraud," the star sang in the video. "Don't believe it, don't give up any of your bank accounts or personal information to anyone posing as me, or anyone else for that matter," Winfrey added. Winfrey's OWN also issued a statement via its official Facebook page and Twitter handle warning of an impostor. "Please be aware that social media accounts promising money using OWN and/or Oprah Winfrey's name are false," the statement reads. "We have notified the social media platforms who are working diligently to deactivate these accounts," it added.

Golden Gate Park meadow renamed after Robin Williams

A meadow in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park has been named after veteran comedian and actor Robin Williams. The name of Golden Gate Park's Sharon Meadow was officially changed to Robin Williams Meadow by the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Commission. The announcement was made by the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Commission on their official website. "After Robin Williams death, the Department was approached by Debbi Durst and Maggie Lynch, who represent a range community members, elected officials and people working in comedy, to name the area known as Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park in honour of Robin Williams," the release said. The grassy stretch in Golden Gate Park was the site of an annual Comedy Day that counted Williams among its regular supporters. Williams was found dead at his California home in 2014.

Singer-actor Nick Jonas has said that he wants to win an Oscar someday but is currently only working on projects he is "passionate" about. The 25-year-old star, who will next be seen in "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle", said he is focused on improving his acting currently but still has ambitions to take the golden lady home. "Winning an Oscar? Nah. I have no interest. I'm kidding. Yeah, I mean that'd be amazing. Film actor forces TV channel reporter to delete visuals

A reporter and cameraman of a Malayalam TV channel were allegedly threatened and forced to delete visuals they had shot by a film actor and crew members at a nearby shooting location, police said. Reporter M S Lishoy and cameraman Nikhil Joseph of Mathrubhumi news channel were yesterday threatened and forced to delete visuals at the shooting location near Thoppumpady. The TV crew alleged that actor Unni Mukundan got agitated when a question was asked about a complaint filed against him by a woman in a police station. The mediapersons had reached the shooting location on an invitation. A case has been filed against the actor and others based on the complaint by the mediapersons, police said. The Ernakulam District committee of Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) condemned the incident and urged the Kochi City police commission to take action against the actor and others who allegedly harassed the mediapersons.
