'The Revenant' scribe to pen Quentin Tarantino's 'Star Trek'

Quentin Tarantino's "Star Trek" movie project has roped in "The Revenant" screenwriter Mark L Smith to write the script. Tarantino and J J Abrams will produce and Tarantino may direct the Paramount Pictures project, reported Variety. News of the duo working on the R-rated project first emerged earlier this month. Details of the plot have remained under wraps. Paramount has released 13 "Star Trek" movies since 1979's "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." The studio rebooted the franchise in 2009 with Abrams directing "Star Trek" and "Star Trek: Into Darkness" in 2013 before moving to 2015's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Justin Lin directed "Star Trek Beyond" in 2016.

Vishal Bhardwaj to direct Irrfan, Deepika in his next film

Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj has taken the charge of directing Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone in his next project, which was earlier supposed to be helmed by Honey Trehan. Bhardwaj has stepped in the director's shoes owing to creative differences with Trehan. "Due to different artistic visions of the film, Honey (Trehan) and I jointly came to the decision that it would be best if I took over as director and saw it through to the end," Bhardwaj said in a statement. Sharing similar views, Trehan said, "Owing to our differences in creative understanding, we have mutually and amicably decided that it would be best for our film if Vishal sir took over as director." Trehan will direct another project in the near future to be produced by VB Pictures and KriArj Entertainment. Kiefer Sutherland says she did not want his daughter Sarah to join acting. The "Designated Survivor" star, who is the son of actors Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, says he was disappointed when his daughter decided to follow the same career path as his, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
