Disney announces Ferdia Shaw as its lead in 'Artemis Fowl'

Irish newcomer Ferdia Shaw will play the titular role in Disney's "Artemis Fowl". The live-action film will be helmed by director Kenneth Branagh with Irish playwright Conor McPherson penning the script. Shaw was chosen out of 1200 candidates for the role in the film, which will also mark his acting debut, reported Oh My Disney. Written by Eoin Colfer, the "Artemis Fowl" books follow 12-year-old Artemis, who finds himself in a battle of strength and cunning against a powerful, hidden race of fairies who may be behind his father's disappearance. Disney also announced that the film will feature actors Josh Gad, Judi Dench, Lara McDonnell, and Nonso Anozie in supporting roles. Gad will play Mulch Diggums, a kleptomaniacal dwarf who works for the fairies and himself; Dench will play Commander Root, the steely leader of the fairy police force; McDonnell as Captain Holly Short, the elf hero; and Anozie will play Butler, Artemis formidable bodyguard.

UN rights chief to step down over 'geo-political context'

UN rights chief Zeid Raad Al Hussein, a harsh critic of US President Donald Trump, will step down next year, saying he will not seek another mandate "in the current geo-political context," according to an email sent to staff today. "I have decided not to seek a second four-year term. To do so, in the current geo-political context, might involve bending a knee in supplication; muting a statement of advocacy; lessening the independence and integrity of my voice - which is your voice," he wrote in the email which was seen by AFP.

'Race 3' team to have working Christmas

In a bid to wrap a pivotal part of the film, the makers of upcoming action flick 'Race 3' will have a working Christmas this year.The team has already completed one portion of shoot and will be starting their second installment of the shoot soon.According to a source, all actors have canceled their festive plans and have kept Race as their priority."The team will have a 6-day working schedule during the festival as the team wants to wrap a pivotal part of the film they have decided to complete it as soon as possible. 'Hichki' director calls Nishant Kaushik's plagiarism allegations 'baseless'

Director Siddharth P Malhotra on Wednesday vehemently denied the claims made by Nishant Kaushik for taking ideas from his script and not giving him the due credit for his upcoming flick 'Hichki'.Terming the claims as "baseless", Malhotra said that he had bagged the official rights of the novel 'Front of the Class' on which the movie is based and claimed that the team has credited all the writers who have contributed to the film."I had acquired the rights to make 'Front of the Class' as a Hindi motion picture in 2013. Three arrested for demanding money from film producer

Three persons were arrested today for allegedly demanding money from a producer in return for not uploading the latter's upcoming film on the internet. Hyderabad police said in a release that P Sudhakar Chowdary, P Prabhakar Chowdhary and Y Vijaya Nag were arrested by the Cyber Crime Police based on the complaint by K Krishnaiah. Police said that a few days before the release of the complainant's movie, the three accused had approached him stating that they could stop the piracy of his movie using their contacts. They then asked for money from the producer for not uploading his movie on the internet, said police. A case had been registered and further investigations were on, police said.

Freedom of speech and expression cannot be "absolute" but it should also not be trampled upon, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said today. He said there has to be regulation when it comes to certain aspects like sovereignty of the nation but it should not amount to strangulation of rights. 'Bright', 'I, Tonya' in race for makeup and hairstyling Oscar

Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2", Netflix's "Bright", and Tonya Harding's biopic "I, Tonya" are among the seven films short-listed for the makeup and hairstyling Oscar.
