NFAI, FTII sign MoU for transfer of land for film storage

The National Film Archives of India (NFAI) and the Film & Television Institute of India (FTII) on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for transfer of three acres of land for the construction of a storage facility for films and film material. According to an official release, the land belonging to the FTII at its Kothrud campus here will be transferred to the NFAI. Bhupendra Kanthola, Director, FTII and Prakash Magdum, Director, NFAI signed the MoU. Magdum thanked the FTII for "joining hands with NFAI in this cause of film preservation" and added that due to increased efforts of NFAI, "there has been steady inflow of celluloid films for preservation in last three-four years". "This has resulted in the storage capacity of NFAI almost becoming full. Therefore, there is a need to construct new storage facility," he said.

'I&B ministry asked PCI to direct print media to set up panel on sexual harassment complaints'

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has requested the Press Council of India to issue necessary directives to all print media, and also urged film production houses, to place an effective mechanism for addressing complaints of sexual harassment at workplace. This was stated by Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore in a written reply in Lok Sabha to a question on the action taken by the ministry over the the National Commission for Women (NCW) requesting it to direct print, publication and production houses to form an internal panel to probe complaints of sexual harassment at workplace. The NCW had in October urged the ministry to direct print, publication and production houses to form an internal committee to probe complaints of sexual harassment at workplace after the women rights body received a number of such complaints against persons in both traditional print organisations as well as digital media. NFAI, FTII sign MoU film storage facility

A storage facility for films and film materials will be constructed on Kothrud campus of Film & Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune. The new facility will be spread in an area of three acres of land.A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) and FTII on Thursday. Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar Thursday held a live chat session on Instagram, discussing issues related to fitness, diet and bullying in school. Youtuber Danish Zehen dies in accident

Danish Zehen (21), a YouTube star, died in an accident on Sion-Panvel Highway in neighbouring Navi Mumbai in the wee hours Thursday, police said. Zehen was driving back to Navi Mumbai after attending a wedding in Kurla here when he lost control of his car and it hit a roadside wall around 12.30 am, a police officer said. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the official said. Zehen's brother who was travelling with him sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment. Zehen was a contestant of the reality TV show Ace of Star and his videos were popular on YouTube.

Three-day winter carnival begins in Nainital

The three-day winter carnival kicked off in Nainital Thursday with former cabinet minister Bansidhar Bhagat and local MLA Sanjeev Arya inaugurating the annual event. Themed 'Save and Educate the Girl Child', the carnival started with a performance by a band, besides presentation of a number of tableaus depicting various Kumaoni festivals and marriages. Kumaoni songs, Chholia dance, acrobats of the Gatka Akhara and Rudrapur were the other features which were witnessed by enthusiastic crowds. Gond artist-couple explores new avenues at biennale

: Their ancestors traditionally used walls as space for drawings and paintings in the interior villages of central India. Today, Gond artists Durgabai and Subhash Vyam from Madhya Pradesh have taken the graphic narrative to a new level, courtesy Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB). Not limiting themselves to the conventional frescoes called Gondi Bhitti Chitrakala, the couple has gone for a wall-based installation featuring images on marine plywood. Each such work is cut out in various shapes and outlines the flora and fauna that are celebrated in their tribal folklore. The Bhopal-based pair, simply put, has gone by the extra thrust to the 'experimental' spirit of the fourth edition of the KMB that has been on since December 12. Thus, at the 108-day festival's main venue in Fort Kochi, the Vyams' infrastructure project has added to the interactive spirit envisioned by the biennale curator Anita Dube. Actor Vishal detained for attempting to forcibly enter TFPC;

High drama prevailed at the office of the Tamil Film Producers Council here Thursday when its president, actor Vishal Krishna, was detained by police for trying to forcibly enter its premises and reportedly attempting to break the lock put up by a rival faction. The actor termed his detention as "illegal" and said he would move court to ensure 'justice' against the police action. The rival faction of producers had locked up the premises on Wednesday, reportedly dissatisfied with the functioning of Vishal and his elected associates besides levelling allegations of irregularities, police said. Dangal, Maacher Jhol to be screened at India-China Film Festival

Bollywood star Amir Khan's 'Dangal', Bengali film 'Maacher Jhol' and Chinese movie 'CZ12' will be among seven films that will be screened at the India-China Film Festival being organised here from Saturday. In order to strengthen people-to-people connect and deepen cultural understanding between the two countries, the India-China Film Festival will be organised during the first India-China High Level Mechanism on Cultural and People-to-People Exchanges from December 22-24. The three-day festival will be organised at the Siri Fort Auditorium by the Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. A total of seven films -- four Chinese and three Indian films -- will be screened during the festival, an official statement said. The opening film of the festival will be 'CZ12' also known as 'Chinese Zodiac'. The list of Indian films to be screened were 'Dangal' (Hindi), 'Maacher Jhol' (Bengali) and 'Ventilator' (Marathi). All the films will carry English subtitles.
